STOCKTON, Calif.ย --ย The top-ranked UCLA Bruins improved to 18-0 on the year with a 9-5ย victory at No. 4 Pacific (12-4) in a non-conferenceย game at Chris Kjeldsen Poolย on Saturday afternoon.ย The win tied the NCAA's all-time record of 51 consecutive victories (Stanford, 1985-87) and broke UCLA's all-time record of 50 straight wins (1964-68). The Bruins now turn their attention to a Noon road date atย No. 11 UC Davis on Sunday as they seek to surpass the all-time NCAA record.

Junior Max Irving led the Bruins with three goals and senior Ryder Roberts and junior Alex Roelse each added two for UCLA. Senior Garrett Danner started in goal for the Bruins, registering nine saves, two assists and two steals while allowing four goals in 29:52 of action.ย Junior Aleksandar Ruzic replaced Danner for the final 2:08 of the fourth period, allowing one power play goal. Redshirt freshman Alen Osmanovic started in goal for the Tigers, registering 10 saves while allowing nine goals.

Irving opened the scoring with a high cross-cage strike (3:37) off a feed from sophomore David Stiling. After Aleksandar Petrovic tied things up at 1-1 (4:03), Irving made it 2-0 with a counter attack score (3:37) from a perfect pass from Danner.ย Roelse scored the final goal of the opening period off a nice pass from Irving for a power play goal (1:08) to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead.

Roelse scored his second of the game off a nice turn and finish from five meters to open the scoring in the second (5:45) to put UCLA up 4-1. The Bruins then scored their fourth in a row when Roberts took a feed from Roelse and scored from the front court (3:24) to extend the lead to 5-1. But UCLA fell asleep on Pacfic's second power play opportunity of the period, allowing Petrovic (1:54) to score his second of the contest. It was the final goal of the quarter as UCLA took a 5-2 lead into the break.

Luis Araya scored a power play goal for Pacific to open the scoring in the third (7:06) to cut the lead to 5-3. But senior Patrick Fellner scored his first of the game with a cross-cage heater from a Jack Grover feedย to make it 6-3 (3:44). Irving then completed his hat trick with a counter attack score (1:06) to push the lead to 7-3. Grover picked up his second assist when senior Chancellor Ramirez, who had two shots go bar-out in the first half, found the back of the net to end the scoring in the third (0:26), givingย UCLA an 8-3 lead heading into the fourth.

Fellner set up Roberts for his second score, a nearside skipper that beat Osmanovic to push the lead to 9-3 at the 7:18 mark of the fourth. Ikko Saito then scored for Pacific from the front court (4:40) to cut the lead to 9-4. Araya scored his second on a power play (1:34) to provide the 9-5 final.
