No. 2 Bruins Win Two at UCI Invite

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 2 UCLA women's water polo team wrapped up day one of the UC Irvine Invitational with two wins. The Bruins (10-1) edged No. 19 San Diego State, 6-5, before handing No. 7 Michigan a 14-8 loss.
The morning matchup proved to be a defensive battle, as the two squads compiled a total of 16 fouls. In the cage, Alex Musselman tallied a season-high 12 saves. The Bruins held the Aztecs scoreless in the first quarter while netting two of their own. SDSU repaid the favor in the third, notching one goal to UCLA's zero.
Scoring for the Bruins were all the usual suspects—Devin Grab, India Forster, Mackenzie Barr, Charlotte Pratt, and Alexa Tielmann. Tielmann led the pack with two goals, while the others each netted one.
In the second match of the day, UCLA cruised past a familiar foe in Michigan. Barr led the team in scoring with four goals, while Ashley Zwirner and Tielmann both recorded hat tricks. Freshman Rachel Whitelegge found the back of the next twice, and Grab and Forster notched a goal apiece.
The Bruins kick off day two action against Cal or Hawai'i at 11:45 a.m. The game takes place at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
