LOS ANGELES -- Fourth-ranked UCLA (15-4) extended its winning streak to eight matches with a 5-0 win over No. 6 Long Beach State (9-9) on Wednesday afternoon at Sunset Canyon Beach Volleyball Courts on the campus of UCLA.
On senior day, it was fitting that a senior won the first point on court two when UCLA's senior Kamila Tan and sophomore Ivey Schmitt took down the 49ers' Jenelle Hudson and Zoi Konstantopoulou in straight sets, 21-12, 21-16.
UCLA's freshman pair of Nicole McNamara and Megan McNamara posted a straight-set victory over LBSU's Rachel Nieto and Nele Barber, 21-13, 21-8, to put the Bruins up 2-0.
The Bruins sealed the match on court four as UCLA's tandem of freshman Zana Muno and sophomore Reily Buechler also posted a straight-set win over the 49ers' Ariana Garner and Peyton Grahovac, 21-16, 21-12.
UCLA's duo of sophomore Elise Zappia and freshman Izzy Carey made it 4-0 at flight three, defeating LBSU's Kobi Pekich and Sammee Thomas, 22-20, 21-13.
Also fitting was another UCLA senior, Julie Consani and her partner, junior Laurel Weaver putting the exclamation point at the end of a 5-0 sweep at flight five with a straight-set over LBSU's Mykah Wilson and Ciana Wagner, 21-1, 25-23. The pair trailed 18-13 in the second set before rallying to complete the match without any Bruin pair dropping a set.
The Bruins will complete the regular season next week with a mid-week trip to CSUN to face the Matadors and Loyola Marymount on April 20. UCLA will face the Lions in Northridge, Calif., at 12:30 p.m. and conclude the regular season at CSUN at 2:30 p.m.
