LOS ANGELES -- Fourth-ranked and second-seeded UCLA (19-4) advanced to the winner's bracket semifinals of the Pac-12 Championships with a 4-1 win over third-seeded and sixth-ranked Arizona (16-4) on Saturday afternoon at USC's Merle Norman Stadium. It marked the Bruins' 12th-consecutive victory.
The Bruins won the first point on court four as UCLA's tandem of freshman Zana Muno and junior Jessyka Ngauamo defeated the Wildcats' Mia Mason and Kalei Mau in straight sets, 21-15, 21-19.
Senior Julie Consani and her partner, junior Laurel Weaver, put UCLA up 2-0 with a straight-set win on court five over Arizona's Mackenzie Kleepsies and Hailey Pelvin, 21-19, 26-24.
UCLA's duo of sophomore Elise Zappia and freshman Izzy Carey sealed the team win on court three with a straight-set victory over the Wildcats' Olivia Macdonald and Sam Manley, 21-15, 21-16.
Then the Bruins' freshman duo of Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara got to exact a little revenge on Arizona's twin pair of Madison and McKenna Witt in straight sets, 21-18, 26-24. The Witt twins knocked out the McNamara twins in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Pairs Championships before falling to USC in the finals.
Arizona picked up its only point on court two when Jianna Bonomi and Katarina Schulz defeated the Bruins' duo of senior Kamila Tan and sophomore Ivey Schmitt in straight sets, 21-15, 21-15, to provide the 4-1 final.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. where they will face No. 1 USC (28-2), which defeated No. 4 California (17-10), 5-0, earlier today.
