The Bruins were led by sophomore Felix Brozyna-Vilim who scored a game- and career-high five goals on just five shots. Redshirt junior Alex Wolf started in the cage and played the first quarter, pitching a shutout while making two saves and registering two steals. Freshman Danny Roland played the final three quarters, making six saves while surrendering one goal in the fourth period.
Brozyna-Vilim got the Bruins on the board with back-to-back goals from two meters (7:44 and 7:02). The Bruins reeled off three straight counter scores by sophomores, beginning with Nicolas Saveljic (6:28) and Evan Rosenfeld (5:17) and capped by Chasen Travisano (4:51). Sophomore Quinten Osborne put UCLA up 6-0 with a score at set (4:09). Saveljic ended the scoring in the period with his second goal of the game from the front court (0:56) to put the Bruins up 7-0 at the end of the first period.
Freshman Michael Graner opened the scoring in the second quarter with a penalty shot conversion (7:42). Osborne followed with his second of the game from two meters (5:12). Redshirt freshman Bailey Jarvis scored his first of the game and the first power play goal of the game (4:21) to extend the lead to 10-0. Brozyna-Vilim completed his hat trick with a strike from two meters (3:13) to make it 11-0. UCLA then closed the half with three consecutive power play goals. Travisano scored his second of the game (1:26), senior David Stiling netted his first (0:44), and Brozyna-Vilim beat the buzzer for his fourth of the game (0:01) to put UCLA up 14-0 at the break.
Another shutout period followed for UCLA in the third, which opened the scoring with a goal at set from Osborne (7:34), his third of the game. Graner then netted his second of the contest from the front court (6:24) off a nice feed from Saveljic. Brozyna-Vilim's fifth goal of the game from two meters (4:26) stretched the lead to 17-0, ending the scoring in the third quarter.
A low-scoring fourth period followed with each team scoring once. Travisano completed his hat trick, a season-high, with a power play goal (4:18) to make it 18-0. Leo Suarez ended the scoring drought for the Lions (2:22) with a skipper that beat Roland near post, providing the 18-1 final.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 17 when they take on No. 1 Stanford at 11:00 a.m. PT in the first semifinal.
