Three Bruins led the team with hat tricks, which included senior Austin Rone, sophomore Nicolas Saveljic and freshman Ashworth Molthen. Redshirtย junior Alex Wolf started in the cage and played the first three periods, registering nine saves while allowing three goals. Freshman Danny Roland came in on relief in the fourth period and tallied two saves while surrendering threeย goals.
Saveljicย got the Bruins on the board first with a cross-cage goal at the 7:37 mark of the first period. Molthenย scored his first from the front court (6:48) and senior Warren Snyder added a power play goal (5:06) to make it 3-0. Sophomore Chasen Travisanoย put the Bruins up 4-0 with a score from the front court (4:29). A minute later Andrew Mavis got the Colonials on the board with a score from two meters (3:29) to make it 4-1. On the Bruins' next possession, freshman Jake Cavano scored from the front court (3:11) to push the lead to 5-1. Andrasย Levaiย ended the scoring in the first with a goal from the front court (2:49) as the Bruins led 5-2 heading into the second period.
Sophomore Quinten Osborne opened the scoring in the second quarter with his first goal of the game from two meters (6:44). Another sophomore, Felix Brozyna-Vilim, then had a powerful catch and finish out of set (4:46) for his first goal, putting UCLA up 7-2. Atakanย Desticiย scored his first from the front court (4:23) to cut the lead to 7-3. Ashworth set up senior David Stiling for his first score of the contest (1:33) on a 6-on-5 opportunity. Molthenย then found the back of the net for his second goal of the game (0:20) to end the scoring in the period, giving UCLA a 9-3 lead at halftime.
Sophomore Evan Rosenfeldย opened the scoring in the third period, becoming the ninth Bruin to score in the game (6:54). Rone then became the 10th, scoring his first at the 6:09 mark, extending the lead to 11-3. Molthenย made it 12-3 with a score from the front court (5:24) to complete his hat trick. Saveljicย then added his second on a power play (3:26), Travisanoย netted his second from the front court (2:02) and Roneย chipped in his second on a counter (1:34), ending the scoring in the third with the Bruins leading 15-3.
Mavis opened the final period with a goal for the Colonials (7:43), snapping the Bruins' consecutive goal streak at eight. Roneย had an immediate answer, completing his hat trick (7:18) to put the lead at 16-4. Mavis then completed his hat trick for GW (6:11) with a goal from the front court. Saveljicย answered on the Bruins' next possession for his hat trick on a power play (5:37). Zach Slaughter scored from the front court for GW (5:06) to trim the lead to 17-6. But redshirt freshman Bailey Jarvis would provide the game's last goal on a Bruin power play (4:23) to provide the 18-6 final.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 5:00 p.m. PT against second-seeded USC in the NCAA Semifinals.
