LOS ANGELES --ย No. 4 UCLA (20-2, 1-1) moved into a four-way tie for first in theย MPSFย with a 10-8 upset of No. 2 Stanford (17-2, 1-1) on Saturday afternoon atย Spiekerย Aquatics Center. The Bruins improved to 73-84 all-time against the Cardinal. With the win, UCLA completed an undefeated season at home going 8-0.

The Bruins were led byย sophomore Nicolas Saveljicย who scored a game-high and career-high-tying four goals against Stanford. Redshirtย junior Alex Wolf started in the cage and went the distance, recording nine saves while allowing eight goals.

Sophomore Quinten Osborne put the Bruins on the board first with a rebound score on a power play (6:56) to put UCLA up 1-0. Ben Hallockย answered for the Cardinal with a power play goal (6:33) to knot it at 1-1.ย Saveljicย then put the Bruins ahead 2-1 with a penalty shot conversion (6:15). Senior Austin Rone made it 3-1 with a score from the front court after an ordinary foul (3:27). Hallock then scored his second of the game with seven seconds left in the period to cut the lead to 3-2.

Freshman Jake Cavanoย scored for the 13th-straightย game (his 13th game played this season) to open the scoring in the second quarter (5:14) on a perfect lob shot that put the Bruins up 4-2. Sophomore Chasen Travisano scored back-to-back goals for the Bruins (2:02 and 0:35) to end the scoring in the first half with the Bruins pitching a shutout, leading 6-2 at the break.

A high-scoring third quarter followed with each team scoring three times. Saveljicย scored his second of the game from the front court (7:30) to put UCLA up 7-2. Marco Stanchiย scored on a power play for the Cardinal (7:03) to cut it to 7-3, but Roneย set up fellow senior Warren Snyder on a 6-on-5 opportunity (4:57) to push the lead back to five. Stanford would score back-to-back goals (2:15 and 1:18) to trim the lead to 8-5. But freshman Ashworth Molthenย would draw a penalty and Savejlicย would convert it to complete a hat trick (0:55), ending the scoring in the third with the Bruins leading 9-5.

Stanford scored three unanswered goals to open the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 9-8. Blake Parrish scored back-to-back goals (6:44 and 5:05) and then Bennett Williams added a power play goal (2:52) on Stanford's 12thย 6-on-5 opportunity of the game. But on the 13thย power play for the Cardinal (1:52), the Bruins' defense rose to the occasion. Saveljicย would score his fourth at the buzzer with the Stanford goalkeeper out of the cage to provide the 10-8 final.

The Bruins conclude the 2018 regular season next weekend at No. 1 USC (26-1, 1-1) on Saturday, Nov. 10. The game will be televised live on the Pac-12 Network. Game time will be announced on Monday, Nov. 5.
