WESTLAKE VILLAGE AND SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Bruins had a big Tuesday in a 40-mile radius of the North Ranch and Sand Canyon Country Clubs, as #22 UCLA won the Southwestern Invitational by 20 strokes, while junior Phil Delisi took home medalist honors at the TMC Spring Invite.
In the Bruins' team event in Westlake Village, they defeated host Pepperdine by four handfuls, as they were the only team under par at 8-under 856. Leading by four shots following a second-round 292 (+4), which was completed on Tuesday morning after darkness suspended play Monday night, the Bruins shot a 9-under 279 in their final round to post their first team victory since 2015.
All five Bruins finished inside the Top 10, with a trio inside the Top 5. Sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara, who shot a 1-over 73 to complete round two, posted a 3-under 69 in his final round. He made an eagle on #12, five birdies (#18, #4, #8, #9 and #15) and four bogeys to finish in solo third at 3-under (213). Junior Cole Madey was solo fourth at 1-under 215. He posted a 1-over 73 in his second round before shooting an even-par 72 to complete the tournament. Madey had a pair of birdies on #3 and #6 to go with two bogeys.
Freshman Devon Bling tied for fifth (E, 216). After finishing a second-round 73 (+1), he shot a 3-under 69 in the afternoon, making an eagle on the fourth, a birdie on #6 and birdies on five of his last six holes (#12, #13, #15, #16 and #17), adding five bogeys. Senior Tyler Collier tied for ninth (+1, 217). He shot a second-round 75 before improving six shots in his final round, recording a 3-under 69. He made four straight birdies on holes #3-#6 and then two in a row on #12 and #13 to go with three bogeys. Freshman Eddy Lai tied for 18th (+6, 222), notching a 1-over 73 in round two and a 6-over 78 in round three (three birdies - #17, #1 and #6, seven bogeys and one double).
Meanwhile, north of the team event in Santa Clarita, juniors Phil Delisi and Jack Ireland posted a 1-2 finish at the TMC Spring Invite. It was the first career victory for Delisi (-7, 209), who shot a closing-round 67 (-5) to beat Ireland by a couple. Ireland shot a final-round, 6-under 66 to finish at 5-under 211. Junior Patrick Murphy tied for 18th (+10, 226) after a final-round 74 (+2), while sophomore Scott Mitchell notched a T-29 showing (+13, 229) with a final-round 77 (+5). Hole-by-hole scoring was unavailable for the tournament.

The Bruins' next two tournaments will take them to Las Vegas, starting with the Southern Highlands Collegiate (March 5-7) at the Southern Highlands Golf Club.
