No. 4 UCLA Goes 4-0 in Manhattan Beach

The Bruins defeated No. 5 FSU, 3-2, and No. 20 TCU, 4-1, on Sunday in the East Meets West Challenge.

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif.ย -- No. 4 UCLA (10-3) continued play in the second annual East Meets West Challenge with a thrilling 3-2 victory over No. 5 Florida State (9-2) on Sunday at Manhattan Beach Pier. The eight-team tournament features eight ranked teams, including all of the teams in the top five.
UCLA's junior tandem of Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put UCLA up 1-0 with a straight-set win over Macy Jerger and Tory Paranagua, 21-16, 21-13.
Freshman Megan Muret and junior Izzy Carey game the Bruins a 2-0 lead, winning in straight sets, 26-24, 21-16 over FSU's Molly McBain and Madison Fitzpatrickย on court five.
The Seminoles' Vanessa Freire and Sara Putt won a three-set thriller over UCLA's junior Sarah Sponcil and sophomore Lily Justine, 17-21, 21-15, 15-9, to earn FSU's first point in the dual.
Then Katie Horton and Hailey Luke of Florida State defeated the Bruins' duo of senior Elise Zappiaย and sophomore Madi Yeomansย on court four in another match that went three sets, 18-21, 27-25, 15-13, to tie the dual up at 2-2.
Then all eyes turned to court three, where UCLA'sย junior Zana Muno and sophomoreย Savvy Simoย delivered a come-from-behind three-set victory over the Seminole's Brooke Kuhlman and Francesca Goncalves, 17-21, 21-18, 17-15 to secure the 3-2 team dual victory.

UCLA (11-3) concluded the East Meets West Challenge with a 4-1 victory over No. 20 TCU (3-8) in its only game of the weekend without rain.
UCLA took a 1-0 lead on court two after juniorย Sarah Sponcil and sophomore Lily Justine won in straight sets over Molly Scheel and Jensynย Bledsoe, 21-12, 21-17.
The Bruins' junior tandem of Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put UCLA up 2-0 on court one with a straight-set win over TCU's Jillian Bergeson and Jaelynย Greene, 21-11, 21-14.
For the third-straight dual, the clinching point came from court three as junior Zana Muno and sophomore Savvy Simoย defeated the Horned Frogs' Haven Hill and Cassie House in straight sets, 21-11, 21-12.
Another straight-set victory followed on court five when Bruin freshmanย Megan Muret and junior Izzy Carey defeated TCU'sย Jordan Terral and Kristy Wieser, 21-16, 21-12.
TCU earned its only point of the dual on court four when Claire Doyle and Hannah Rogers defeated freshman Mac May and seniorย Elise Zappiaย in three sets, 21-19, 17-21, 15-13.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, March 17 at Ocean Park Beach in Santa Monica, Calif., at the LMU Invitational. UCLA will play three times on the day, starting with Missouri State at 11:00 a.m., then Colorado Mesa at Noon and ending with Loyola Marymount at 3:00 p.m.
