SANTA MONICA, Calif.ย -- Second-ranked UCLA won its 10th dual in a row on Saturday morning at Ocean Park Beach, sweeping Arizona State 5-0 in its first match of a doubleheader at the Pac-12 South Invitational.
The Bruins, who improve to 15-3 on the season, will face No. 11 Arizona in their second Saturday match at 12 p.m., while the Sun Devils fall to 3-8.
UCLA dropped just one of 11 sets, as sophomore Lily Justine and junior Sarah Sponcil lost onlyย 11 points in a 21-6, 21-5 victory over Natalie Braun and Frances Giedraitis. Juniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara were the next to win, defeating Kwyn Johnson and Mia Rivera by a score of 21-11, 21-12.
The clinching point came on court five when junior Izzy Carey and freshman Megan Muret, knocked off Katie Baldwin and Samantha Plaster, 21-15, 21-12. The duo of freshman Mac May and senior Elise Zappia defeated Katie Cross and Cierra Flood (21-19, 21-18), while junior Zana Muno and sophomore Savvy Simo were taken to a third set, but triumphed over Katelyn Carballo and Ellyson Lundberg (21-17, 19-21, 15-11).
