No. 2 UCLA Posts Sixth Straight Sweep

The Bruins defeated No. 16 California, 5-0, on Sunday morning at the Pac-12 South Invitational.

SANTA MONICA, Calif.ย -- No. 2 UCLA won its 12th dual in a row withย its sixth-straight sweep on Sunday morning at Ocean Park Beach, sweeping No. 16 Californiaย 5-0 in its first match of a doubleheader at the Pac-12 South Invitational.
The Bruins, who improved to 17-3 on the season, will face No. 19 Washington (3-4) in their final match of the tournament at Noonย PT today.
UCLA didn't drop a set, as senior Elise Zappia and freshman Mac May on court four got the Bruins on the board first with a straight-set win over California's (12-3) Mia Merino and Caroline Schafer, 21-19, 21-12. Juniorsย Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara made it 2-0 when they defeated the Golden Bears' Alexia Inman and Mimaย Mirkovicย on court one, 21-13, 24-22.
The clinching point came from court two as sophomore Lily Justine and junior Sarah Sponcilย took down Cal's Jessica Gaffney and Iya Lindahlย in two sets, 21-18, 21-13.ย
Juniorย Zana Muno and sophomore Savvy Simoย put the Bruins up 4-0 with a 23-21, 21-19 win over Bryce Bark and Madison Dueck on court three. Then junior Izzy Carey and freshman Megan Muretย completed the sweep on court five with a 21-17, 21-18 victory over California's Grace Campbell and Madison Micheletti.
