ERIN, Wis. - The Bruins shot the third-best round of the day on Tuesday at Erin Hills Golf Course, finishing in third place for the Marquette Intercollegiate at 5-under 859. UCLA shot a 9-under 279 in the final round to close four shots back of Purdue and two behind second-place Northwestern.
Junior Eddy Lai was the top Bruin finisher, tying for fifth at 4-under 212. He shot a 4-under 68 on Tuesday, making six birdies on No. 2, 6, 7, 14, 16 and 17 and two bogeys.
Senior Hidetoshi Yoshihara tied for 10th at 2-under 214 following a 2-under 70. He made five birdies on No. 2, 7, 10, 12 and 14 and three bogeys.
Sophomore Bryan Wiyang Teoh tied for 12th at 1-under 215, shooting a 3-under 69 on Tuesday. He made four birdies on No. 2, 12, 14 and 15 and just one bogey. Junior Devon Bling tied for 19th (+2, 218), posting an even-par 72 on five birdies (No. 1, 7, 10, 12 and 15) and five bogeys. Sophomore Sean Maruyama tied for 50th (+11, 227), shooting an even-par 72 on back-to-back birdies on No. 7 and 8 and two bogeys. Sophomore Rory Feng, playing as an individual, was 71st (+22, 238), making two birdies (No. 15 and 2), five bogeys and a double in a 5-over 77.
The Bruins will send a group of individuals to the Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Course in Simi Valley, Calif. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played Monday, Oct. 14 and Tuesday, Oct. 15. The next team event for UCLA will be Oct. 18-20 at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational in Alpharetta, Ga.
