Bruins Fourth After Day Two of OSU Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio โ€“ The UCLA swim and dive team received a trio of top-three finishes on the second day of the Ohio State Invitational at McCorckle Aquatic Pavillion. With one day of competition remaining, UCLA sits in fourth place with a score of 1164.5.

Junior diver Ruby Neave placed second in the 1M diving championship to log UCLA's best individual finish. Senior Amy Okada (100 fly) and sophomore Claire Grover (100 breast) each placed third in their in their respective event.

Okada recorded a time of 53.02 to grab bronze in the 100 fly, an NCAA B Cut that served as her new season-best. Six other Bruins reached the finals of the 100 fly, including sophomore Emily Lo (54.53, 13th) and freshman Gabby Dang (23.61, 21st), who placed first in the C Final.

Sophomore Ella Kirschke led the Bruins in the 400 IM, reaching the A Final and endingย up ninth with a B Cut time of 4:16.97. Senior Lisa Kaunitz was 13th in that event at 4:20.90.

Junior Kenisha Liu served as the Bruins' top finisher in the 200 free, winning the B Final with a season-best time of 1:48.02. She was one of three Bruins to make the B Final. Daniella Hawkins (1:49.91) claimed first place in the C Final.

UCLA had at least one swimmer finish top-10 in the final two individual races of the day, the 100 breast and 100 back.

Grover followed up her Thursday championship in the 50 free with a solid showing in the 100 breast on Friday, touching in 1:00.70 for her third B Cut of the year in that event. Emma Cain also qualified for the A Final, finishing 10th with a time of 1:03.65.

Freshman Sophia Kosturos swam a collegiate-best 53.86 in the 100 back to claim seventh place and the first B Cut of her career. Jennifer Lathrop (56.09, 17th) and Lucy Agnew (56.60, 19th) each reached the B Final.

Neave continued her strong showing on springboard early on in the 2019-20 campaign, finishing second in the 1M championship with a score of 284.75. That figure marked her third-best 1M score of the year, and she's now logged a Zones-qualifying score in every 1M competition she's entered this year.

The Bruins didn't fare as well in the relay portion of the day's event, finishing fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:40.24) and ninth in the 800 free relay (7:23.03).

UCLA concludes action at the Ohio State Invitational on Saturday, with prelims starting at 5:00 a.m. PST followed by finals at 3:30 p.m. PT.
