LOS ANGELES – A rough shooting night and second-quarter drought by the UCLA women's basketball team resulted in a 65-51 setback to No. 10 Stanford on Friday during Play4Kay night at Peuley Pavilion presented by Wescom.

Sophomore Michaela Onyenwere eclipsed the 20-point mark for the 12th time this season, scoring 21 points to go along with six rebounds.

Senior Kennedy Burke tallied 12 points, while redshirt senior Lajahna Drummer pulled down 12 rebounds and became the 10th Bruin in program history with 800 career boards.

The Storyline
UCLA held Stanford scoreless until the 5:31 mark of the first quarter, as Onyenwere netted six of the Bruins' first eight points to help them to an 8-0 lead.

Both teams struggled from the field in the opening 10 minutes, combining to shoot 24.3 percent (9-for-37).

Freshman guard Ahlana Smith ended a near-four-minute scoring drought for UCLA, burying a 3-pointer on the right wing to put UCLA up 13-8 entering the second quarter.

UCLA's offensive struggles continued into the second frame, allowing Stanford to score the first 11 points of the quarter to go up 19-13.

A back-door find from senior guard Japreece Dean to Burke pulled UCLA within three (22-19), but Stanford fired back with 13 unanswered to close the first half and go up 16 (35-19).

The Bruins were held to 18.4 percent (7-for-38) shooting in the first half and were outrebounded by 11 (29-18).

UCLA came out of the locker room on fire, using a 14-0 run to make it a one-possession game (37-36) after a jumper by Onyenwere. The Bruins forced five turnovers during that stretch and held the Cardinal without a point for five minutes.

Thanks to a stifling defensive effort, the Bruins managed to hold the Cardinal to nine third-quarter points on 3-for-12 shooting, creating a four-point contest.

UCLA scored on its first possession of the fourth quarter, as Onyenwere spun around the defense and finished with the right to make it a two-point game.

A Dean trey on the break kept UCLA within seven (54-47), giving the senior her first bucket of the night, but the Bruins were outscored 11-4 the rest of the way, thwarting the chance of any comeback.

Key Stats of the Game
27.5 – UCLA was held to 27.5 (19-for-69) shooting, which ties for the second-worst shooting effort of the season.
