TUCSON, Ariz.ย ย -- No. 1 UCLA improved to 8-0, its best start in school history, with its fifth-straight win over Washington (0-2), 5-0, at the Pac-12 South Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Bear Down Beach. The Bruins improved to 5-0 all-time against the Huskies without dropping a set.
The new pairing of freshman Lindsey Sparks and senior Izzy Carey again gave UCLA the first dual point on the scoreboard with an easy straight-set win on court five over UW's Anna Visser and Marin Grote, 21-5, 21-10.
Court three was next to finish as senior Zana Munoย and freshman Abby Van Winkle improved to 7-0 on the year with a straight-set victory over Washington's Chloe Newton and Emma Calle, 21-12, 21-16.
The reigning Pac-12 Pair of the Week, junior Lily Justine and senior Sarah Sponcil, clinched the dualย with a dominant straight-set win over the Huskies' Kristen Gengenbacher and Cat McCoy on court two, 21-12, 21-10.
Another new pairing appeared on court four as sophomore Lea Monkhouseย and junior Savvy Simoย improved to 2-0 on the year with an easy straight-set win over Callie Weber and Kyra Peterson, 21-10, 21-14.
Seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara completed the 5-0 sweep on court one with identical set scores of 21-13 over UW's Destiny Julye and Shayne McPherson.
The Bruins return to action tomorrowย at the Pac-12 South Tournament at Bear Down Beach in Tucson, Ariz., when they faceย No. 11 California at 9:15 a.m. PTย live on the Pac-12 Networks.
