Seniors Out in Style with a Pair of 5-0 Sweeps

LOS ANGELESย -- No. 1 UCLA (28-1) closed out the 2019 regular season with a pair of 5-0 sweeps against No. 10 Long Beach State (17-9) and No. 15 Grand Canyon (20-11) on Saturday at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center on Senior Day.
In the win over Grand Canyon, the freshman pair of Abby Van Winkle and Lindsey Sparks got the Bruins on the board first with a straight-set win on court four over the Lopes' Anaya Evans and Jamie Walsh, 21-16, 21-9.
Then senior Sarah Sponcil and junior Lily Justine made it 2-0 with a straight-set win on court two over GCU'sย Teagan DeFalco and Mikaela Raudsepp, 21-15, 21-14.
Junior Savvy Simo and sophomore Lea Monkhouse sealed the win on court three with a straight-set victory over Grand Canyon's Katie Hess and Hannah Towne, 21-14, 21-11.
Seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara made it 4-0ย with a straight-set win on court one over the Lopes' Jessica Stansfield and Bella Bauman, 21-6, 26-24.
Senior Izzy Carey and sophomore Megan Muret were reunited on court five and completed the sweep with a straight-set win overย GCU's Taylor Jarzombek and Esmee Priem, 21-17, 21-12.

The Bruins return to action next week at USC's Merle Norman Stadium at the Pac-12 Championship. The seedings and schedule will be announced on Monday, April 22. The Pac-12 Networks is slated to broadcast every dual of the Championship.
