ANNAPOLIS, Md. --ย No. 2 UCLA (3-0) built an 8-1 lead and cruised to a 20-7 win at Navy (1-2) at the Navy Open on Sunday morning at Lejeuneย Hall. The Bruins improved to 16-0 all-time against the Midshipmen.

The Bruins were led by redshirt freshman Ryan Sawyer who scored a game- and career-high four goals. Sophomore Jake Cavano and freshman Jack White also registered hat tricks for the Bruins. Redshirt senior Alex Wolfย played the first half in the cage for UCLAย registering eight saves while allowing two goals (one penalty). Freshman Bernardo Mauriziย played the second half in goal tallying eight stops while allowing five scores.

Sawyer began his four-goal effort with the first two scores of the game from the front court (7:31 and 5:23) to put UCLA up 2-0. Peter Hillen got Navy on the board with a score from the front court (4:56) to trim the Bruins' lead to 2-1. But UCLA scored the last four goals of the opening period to build a 6-1 lead. Junior Felix Brozyna-VIlim scored back-to-back goals from two meters (4:34 and 3:51) to make it 4-1. Sophomore Ashworth Molthenย powered a shot from the front court into the back of the cage (2:56), followed by a shot from distance by White (2:18) to end the scoring in the first.

Sophomore Matthew Kacura opened the scoring in the second quarter (6:46) with a shot from the front court to extend the lead to 7-1. Then it became the Cavano and White show as the two combined to score the next five goals for the Bruins. Cavano scored his first from the front court (5:53) followed by a score on a counter by White (4:40) to make it 9-2. White then completed his hat trick with a score from the front court (4:11), followed by back-to-back front court goals from Cavano (3:20 and 1:36) to complete his hat trick with UCLA leading 12-2. Molthen scored his second of the game on a counter (0:25) to end the scoring in the second period, giving UCLA a 13-2 lead at the break.

Isaac Salinas opened the scoring in the third, his second of the game, on a nice drive and finish (7:02) to make it 13-3. Sophomore Michael Graner got into the scoring column with a shot from the front court (6:42) and Salinas followed with his third for the Midshipmen (5:14) after the ordinary to make it 14-4. Freshman Gabe Discipulo scored his first of the game from two meters off a nice feed from freshman Tommy Gruwell (4:10) to push the lead to 15-4. Navy scored back-to-back goals before Gruwell pulled the trigger on a cross-cage heater to end the scoring in the third (0:13) with the Bruins leading 16-6.

The Bruins scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter, beginning with Brozyna-Vilim's third from two meters (6:01). Then Sawyer notched his third of the game from the front court (5:16) followed by the first goal of the season from junior Nicolas Saveljic (4:45) on a counter to put UCLA up 19-6. Bobby Wall scored a power play goal for Navy (3:12) to cut the Bruins' lead to 19-7. Sawyer then scored his fourth of the game from the front court (1:24) to provide the 20-7 final.

UCLA returns to action later this morning when it concludes play at the Navy Open with the Bruins' first-ever meeting against the La Salle Explorers (1-2) at 10:00 a.m. PT.
