Bruins Finish Seventh at Southwestern Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - The Bruins finished in seventh place (+23, 887) at the Southwestern Invitational, ending the tournament with a 5-over 293 on Tuesday at North Ranch Country Club. UCLA also wrapped up its darkness-suspended second round earlier in the day at 8-over 296.
Junior Devon Bling was the top Bruin finisher, tying for 18th (+2, 218). After finishing his second round with an even-par 72, Bling shot a 2-under 70 in the final round. He made four birdies on No. 12, 16, 6 and 7 to go with two bogeys.
Sophomore Bryan Wiyang Teoh tied for 33rd (+7, 223). He wrapped up a 1-over 73 early Tuesday morning and shot a 2-over 74 in the final round, making four birdies (No. 12, 15, 17 and 4), four bogeys and a double. Senior Hidetoshi Yoshihara and junior Eddy Lai both tied for 41st (+9, 225). Yoshihara shot 2-over 74s in the final two rounds, making three birdies (No. 12, 13 and 15) and five bogeys in the third round. Lai shot 80-76 in his final two rounds, recording a pair of birdies (No. 12 and 16), two bogeys and two doubles in his final round. Freshman Tony Hendricks tied for 50th (+12, 228). He finished out a 5-over 77 for his second round and shot a 3-over 75 in the final round on three birdies (No. 4, 6 and 8) and six bogeys. Sophomore Ahmed Ali, playing as an individual, was 70th (+29, 245), shooting 82-79 (two birdies - No. 15 and 16, five bogeys, two doubles) in his final two rounds.
A group of Bruin individuals will play at the Providence Seabeggar Invitational (Feb. 3-4) at the Angeles National Golf Club in Sunland, Calif. The next UCLA team event will be at the PGA West Greg Norman Golf Course in La Quinta, Calif. at The Prestige presented by Charles Schwab (Feb. 17-19).
