No. 1 UCLA Sweeps No. 19 Stanford, 5-0

HONOLULU -- No. 1 UCLA (5-0) advanced to the finals of the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic at Queen's Beach on Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 sweep of No. 19 Stanford (0-4). The Bruins improved to 10-0 all-time against Stanford. UCLA will now face No. 3/2 LSU in the title game as the Tigers beat No. 5 Hawai'i, 4-1, in the first semifinal. The championship is slated to start at 5:00 p.m. PT.

The Bruins got on the board first when junior Megan Muret and freshman Devon Newberry defeated Stanford's Natalie Berty and Chelsea Mohl on court five in straight sets, 21-11, 21-9.

UCLA's tandem of freshman Rileigh Powers and senior Madi Yeomans put the Bruins up 2-0 on court four with a straight-set win over the Cardinal's Blake Sharp and Shannon Richardson, 21-17, 21-9.

The clinching point came on court three when senior Lily Justine and junior Lea Monkhouse defeated Stanford's Amelia Smith and Maddie Dailey, 21-15, 21-17.

Freshman Lexy Denaburg and sophomore Lindsey Sparks made it 4-0 Bruins with a straight-set win over the Cardinal's Tori Ashkinos and Maddie Kriz, 22-20, 21-14.

Senior Savvy Simo and sophomore Abby Van Winkle completed the 5-0 sweep of Stanford with a three-set thriller over Sunny Villapando and Charlie Ekstrom on court one, 22-20, 12-21, 15-13.
