CORVALLIS, Ore. – Four Bruins scored in double-figures as the UCLA women's basketball team fell to Oregon State, 72-58, on Sunday afternoon in Gill Coliseum. Dominique Onu and Natalie Chou each posted a team-high 13 points in the contest.
IImar'I Thomas led the Bruins with 10 points in the second half. Thomas' last of her six field goals brought UCLA (9-6, 4-4 Pac-12) within two points of Oregon State (11-5, 4-2 Pac-12) at 53-51 with 4:35 remaining in the fourth quarter. Beaver forward Taya Corosdale sparked an 8-0 Oregon State run to stretch their lead back to 61-51 in the following 0:50 seconds to seal the game.
Corosdale finished with 18 points on 5-for-9 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Guard Talia von Oelhoffen scored a game-high 21 on 6-for-12 shooting.
The Beavers opened the game on an 11-2 run through the first 4:48 behind three consecutive 3-pointers all coming from the result of UCLA turnovers. Two 3-pointers came from the hand of von Oelhoffen and another by guard Greta Kampschroeder, who finished with 15 points.
The Bruins responded with three buckets from beyond-the-arc of their own, including back-to-back 3-pointers by Onu who then found Chou for another 3-pointer.
With 0:39 seconds before halftime, Chou snagged an errant Oregon State pass at midcourt and drained a running floater to send the Bruins to the locker room trailing 32-22.
Thomas opened the third period on 3-for-3 shooting to push UCLA out to a 6-0 run while the Bruin defense held the Beavers scoreless for the first four and half minutes of the quarter to cut the deficit to four points at 32-28.
Horvat scored five of her 10 points in the fourth quarter, including an and-one lay-up to begin the fourth quarter to cut Oregon State's lead back to four. The Bruins were within eight points of the Beaver lead until the 2:07 mark when von Oelhoffen sunk her fourth 3-pointer of the night and kickstarted a 9-0 Oregon State run.
UCLA returns home next week to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom to face No. 2 Stanford (16-3, 7-0 Pac-12) on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. PT. The contest will be nationally televised on ESPN.
