LOS ANGELESย --ย No. 2 UCLA (20-2) was firing on all cylinders, scoring 56.7 percent of its shots (17-for-30), to end the non-conference portion of its 2022 schedule with a 17-10 win at No. 12 Loyola Marymount (15-7) at Burns Aquatics Centerย on Saturday afternoon. UCLA improved to 31-0ย all-time in the series history against LMU.

The Bruins won every quarter and had 12 different players score in the game, including a team-high two goals from seniors Tommy Gruwellย and Gabe Discipulo, sophomore Chase Dodd, redshirt sophomore Gianpiero Di Martire, and redshirt freshman Grant Loth. Gruwell added three assists to lead UCLA in scoring with five points.

Senior Bernardo Maurizi got the start in the cage and played the first half, registering two saves and one steal, while allowing six goals. Junior Garret Griggs played the second half, tallying eight saves while surrendering four goals.

David Carrasco led the Lions with five goals while Stelios Dalmaras had seven savesย while surrendering 16 goals to UCLA.ย Finn Friedland played the final 1:22 in the cage for LMU and allowedย one score.

PERIOD ONE
> UCLA outscored LMU 5-3 to take a two-goal lead heading into the secondย period.
> Discipulo opened the scoring with a goal from two meters (6:02) off a feed fromย junior Makoto Kenney.
> After a score by LMU (4:41), senior Cameron Reagan scored on a near-side skipper (3:38) off a pass fromย Gruwell.
> Gruwell then scored from the front court (2:50) to push the lead to 3-1.
> After a power play goal by the Lions (2:22), senior Andy Rodgers scored from the front court (1:58) to push the lead to 4-2.
> The Lions got a counter goal (0:22), but UCLA ran the 7-on-6 to perfection with Dodd beating the buzzer to end the scoring in the first.

PERIOD TWO
> UCLA outscored LMU, 4-3, to build a 9-6ย leadย heading into the break.
> LMU opened the scoring in the second with a power play goal (6:54) but Kenney scored from the front court (6:37) to keep it a two-goal lead.
> The Lions got another power play score (5:55) to trim the lead to 6-5, but again the Bruins had an answer, this time from Gruwell (3:20), to make it 7-5.
> Another power play goal from LMU (2:54) was followed by a second goal from Dodd (2:37) off a pass from Kenney to extend the lead to 8-6.
> Kenney set up Loth who scored his first of the game from two metersย (0:36) to end the scoring in the second.

PERIOD THREE
> UCLA outscored LMU, 3-2, to take a 12-8ย lead heading into the fourth.
> Discipulo opened the scoring in the third with his second goal of the game on a power play (7:20) off a feed from Jack Larsenย to push the lead to 10-6.
> Super senior Jake Cavano scored his first of the game on a counter (4:21) to make it 11-6.
> After a goal by LMU (3:51), Di Martire scored his first of the game (3:23) to make it 12-7.
> LMU ended the scoring in the third (2:44) with a power play goal.

PERIOD FOUR
> UCLA dominated the fourth quarter, 5-2, to provide the 17-10 final.
> Loth opened the scoring in the fourth when he took a perfect feed from Di Martire (7:13) and made a strong turn and finish at two meters to push the lead to 13-8.
> Kenney earned another assist when Di Martire scored his second of the game (6:51) to extend the advantage to 14-8.
> After a goal from the front court by LMU (6:30), freshman Noah Rowe scored his first of the game off a feed from junior Hayden Nightingale that put UCLA up 15-9.
> LMU would tack on another power play goal (4:36), but the Bruins would answer with two more goals. Redshirt sophomore Maximo Rossi scored at set off a feed from Di Martire (1:24) and then freshman Gray Carson scored on a counter (0:45) to end the scoring.

UP NEXT
The Bruins will conclude the regular season next week when it hosts No. 3 USC on "Senior Day" on Friday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks.
