STANFORD, Calif.ย -- No. 3ย UCLA (25-2) closed out the Pac-12 North Invitational with a 5-0 sweep of Washington (7-12) without dropping a set on Sunday afternoonย at Stanford's Beach Volleyball Stadium. UCLA improved to 10-0 all-time against the Huskies withย its 12th sweep of the season and third consecutive.
Natalie Myszkowski and Sophie Moore returned to the UCLA lineup for the first time this weekend and had little trouble with UW's Hannah Yerex and Maeve Griffin, putting the Bruins on the board first with a 21-12, 21-15 victory on court four.
UCLA's Devon Newberry and Jaden Whitmarshย improved to 21-2 on the year (5-1 on court two) with a hard-foughtย 21-17, 24-22, win over Paloma Bowman and Scarlett Dahl to put the Bruins up 2-0.
Marlie Monserezย andย Rileigh Powers clinched the dual victory for UCLA, taking down the Huskies' Olivia Mikkelsen and Ashley Shook, 21-14, 21-17, on court five.
Lea Monkhouse and Jessie Smith continued their dominant play together, winning 21-16, 21-10ย on court three over Washington's Kyra Petersen and Audra Wilmesย to put UCLA up 4-0.
Lexy Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle completed the sweep with a 21-14, 21-18 win on court one over Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen.
The Bruins return to action next week (Apr. 15-16) when theyย travel to San Luis Obispo, Calif., to compete in the Center of Effort Challenge at Cal Poly's Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. UCLA will open with No. 4 Florida State at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
