SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.ย -- No. 3ย UCLA (26-3) dropped a close dual to No. 6 LMU (23-5), 3-2,ย at the Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex on Friday night. UCLA fell to 15-4 all-time against Loyola Marymount.
Megan Rice and Reka Orsi Toth put LMU on the board first with a straight-set win on court one over Lexy Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle, 21-17, 21-17.
The Bruins' pair of Marlie Monserezย andย Rileigh Powers remained undefeatedย (5-0 overall, 4-0 on court five), tying the score at 1-1 with a 21-15, 21-16 win over Jacinda Ramirez and Isabelle Reffer.
LMU would take a 2-1 lead after Vilhelmiina Prihti and Macy Gordon defeated Lea Monkhouse and Jessie Smith in two tight sets, 21-18, 22-20, on court three.
Avery Poppinga and Marine Kinna clinched the dual win for LMU on court three with a tight two-set win over Devon Newberry and Jaden Whitmarsh, 21-19, 24-22.
UCLA's Natalie Myszkowski and Sophie Moore scored the final point of the dualย on court four, holding off Abbey Thorup and Selina Marolf in three sets, 21-19, 19-21, 15-11.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow when they take on No. 13 Cal Poly at 1:45 p.m. PT in both teams' third dual of theย Center of Effort Challenge.
