No. 1 UCLA Splits a Pair at Manhattan Beach Pier

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif.ย -- No. 1ย UCLA (20-2) split a pair of duals on Saturday at the UCLAย Invitational, sweeping No. 15 FIU (15-2), 5-0, in the morning dual and then falling to No. 2 TCU (27-0), 3-2, in the afternoon dual.ย UCLA fell to 3-2 all-time against the Horned Frogs but improved to 9-0ย all-time against FIU.
In the opening dual against FIU, Natalie Myszkowski and Sophie Moore put the Bruins up 1-0 with a straight-set win on court four over Gina Lipscomb and Emma Erteltova, 21-18, 21-17.
Lea Monkhouse and Rileight Powers made it 2-0 Bruins with a 21-16, 21-15 win over Roberta Ribeiro and Zuzanna Bielak on court two.
Jaden Whitmarsh and Devon Newberry clinched the dual on court three with a 21-16, 21-15 victory over Rachele Mancinelli and Emily Meyer.
Lexy Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle defeated Paige Kalkhoff and Giada Bianchi 21-12, 23-21 on court one to put UCLA up 4-0.
Jessie Smith and Marlie Monserezย completed the sweep on court five with a 21-14, 21-19 win overย Kendall Mather and Lisa Luini.
In exhibition play,ย Pani Napoleon and Tessa Van Winkle took down Anna Davis and Sophia Brandstetter,ย 21-12, 21-14.
In theย afternoon dual against TCU, Sutton MacTavish and Kaylie McHugh put the Horned Frogs up 1-0 with a straight-set win on court two over UCLA's Monkhouse and Powers, 23-21, 21-17.
TCU went up 2-0 after Maria Gonzalez and Ana Vergara defeated the Bruins' freshman pair of Moore and Myszkowskiย on court four, 21-14, 22-20.
Whitmarsh and Newberry put the Bruins on the board withย a 21-19, 21-14 win on court three over TCU's Alexis Filippone and Hailey Hamlett.
The Horned Frogs clinched the dual on court five where former Bruin Megan Muret and Rochelle Schott defeated UCLA's Smith andย Monserezย in two tight sets, 22-20, 21-18.
Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle rallied to defeat Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno on court one in a three-set thriller, 18-21, 21-18, 15-10.
In exhibition playย Napoleon and Tessa Van Winkleย def. Peyton Yamagata and Tara Pattonย 21-15, 21-17.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow to take on No. 6 LSU in their final dual of the UCLA Invitational at Manhattan Beach Pier at , 12:30 p.m. PT.
