LOS ANGELESย -- No. 3ย UCLA (28-4) posted a 4-1 win over No. 4 LMU (25-6) on "Senior Day" to close out the Bruins' 2022 home schedule on Wednesday night at Mapes Beach. UCLA improvedย to 16-4 all-time against Loyola Marymount.
UCLA's Natalie Myszkowski and Sophie Moore scored the first point of the dualย on court four, holding off Abbey Thorup and Selina Marolf in three sets, 21-16, 16-21, 15-11.
The Bruins' Jaden Whitmarsh and Devon Newberry rallied to put UCLA up 2-0 in a three-set thriller over Avery Poppinga and Marine Kinnaย on court three, 16-21, 21-17, 17-15.
The Bruins' pair of Marlie Monserezย andย Rileigh Powers remained undefeatedย (8-0 overall, 7-0 on court five), clinching the dual win for UCLAย with a 21-19, 21-19 win over Jacinda Ramirez and Isabelle Reffel.
UCLA would go up 4-0 after senior Lea Monkhouse and Jessie Smith posted a straight-set win on court three over LMU's ad after Vilhelmiina Prihti and Macy Gordon, 21-18, 21-16.
LMU avoided the sweep when Megan Rice and Reka Orsi Tothย rallied to defeatย Lexy Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle on court one, 13-21, 21-11, 15-13.
In exhibition action, Tessa Van Winkle and senior Maggie Walters defeated the Lions' Cassie Chinn and Madi Firnett, 21-18, 21-13.
The Bruins return to action on Friday, Apr. 22 when they close the 2022 regular season at No. 1 USC (27-1) at 1:00ย p.m. PT at Merle Norman Stadium.
