TUCSON, Ariz.ย -- No. 3ย UCLA (29-5) advanced in the winner's bracket of the 2022 Pac-12 Championshipย with a 4-0 win over seventh-seeded Washington (11-19) without dropping a set on Wednesday morning at Arizona's Bear Down Beach. UCLA improved to 11-0 all-time against the Huskies withย its 14th sweep of the season.
UCLA's Devon Newberry and Jaden Whitmarshย (26-5)ย put the Bruins on the board first with a 21-6, 21-10 win on court two over Maeve Griffin and Audra Wilmes.
Natalie Myszkowski and Sophie Moore (26-5)ย had little trouble with UW's Mia Savoldelli and Olivia Mikkelsen, putting the Bruins up 2-0ย with a 21-6, 21-5 victory on court five.
Lea Monkhouse and Jessie Smith continued their dominant play together (8-2), winning 21-15, 21-12 on court three over Washington's Ashley Shook/Hannah Yerexย to clinch the dual win for UCLA.
Lexy Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle (21-7)ย were also able to complete their match on court one just after UCLA clinched on three. The Bruins' court one pair posted a 21-7, 21-15 win over UW's Scarlett Dahl and Natalie Robinson.
Marlie Monserezย andย Rileigh Powers were unable to finish their match as the Pac-12 Championship duals are played to decision, not completion. The Bruin tandem won the first set 23-21 and were trailing 5-6 in the second setย on court four against the Huskies' Emma Calle and Kyra Petersen.
The second-seeded Bruins return to action tomorrow when they face third-seeded Stanford (24-9) at 10:15 a.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks.
