DAVIS, Calif. --ย No. 2 UCLA (7-0) never trailed and cruised to a 13-7 win over No. 10 San Jose State in its first game of the Aggie Roundup on Friday afternoon at UC Davis' Schaalย Aquatics Center.ย UCLA improved to 15-1ย in the series history against the Spartans.The Bruins had seven different players score in the game, which included a career-high four goals from sophomore Chase Dodd. Super senior Jake Cavano, freshman Noah Rowe, and junior Hayden Nightingale eachย chipped in two goals for the Bruins.
Senior Bernardo Maurizi started in the cage and went the distance, tallying 10 saves, one assist, and one steal while allowing seven goals (five on power plays).
Bende Pardi led San Jose State with two goals and Jamie Steingrafย had six saves while surrendering 13 goals to UCLA.
PERIOD ONE
> UCLA outscored the Spartans 4-2 in the first period.
> Dodd opened the scoring with a strike from the front court (6:56) with an assist going to redshirt sophomore Gianpiero Di Martire.
> Dodd added his second (4:57) on a Bruin power play off an exclusion that he drew.
> After back-to-back goals from SJSU (4:23 and 3:05) tied the game, senior Andy Rodgers put the Bruins back in front with a power play goal (3:00).
> Senior Tommy Gruwell then recorded the first of his game-high three assists when Nightingale scored from the front court (0:56) to end the scoring in the period.
PERIOD TWO
> The two teams battled to a 2-2 draw in the second period as UCLA took a 6-4 leadย into the break.
> Rowe drew a penalty (5:58) that Cavano converted to push the lead to 5-2.
> After two straight power play goals by SJSU (2:02 and 0:08) made it 5-4, the Bruins pulled their goalie and executed the 7-on-6 perfectly with Dodd completing his hat trick with three seconds remainingย to end the scoring in the first half.

PERIOD THREE
> The Bruins won the third quarter, 5-3, to take a 11-7 lead into the final period.
> UCLA scored the first two goals of the third with Nightingale netting his second (5:58) off a feed from Gruwellย and Rowe adding his first (5:40) on back-to-back possessions to double up the Spartans at 8-4.
> After a power play goal from SJSU (5:17), redshirt junior Giorgio Alessandria returned the favor (3:27) on a power play for UCLA.
> Dodd's fourth goal of the game came on a counter with Maurizi hitting him in stride for an easy score (2:27) to make it 10-5.
> Another power play goal for the Spartans (0:19) started a flurry of scores by both teams in the final 19 seconds. Rowe netted his second of the game (0:02) on a feed from Dodd on a 7-on-6. But Javi Ibanezย beat the Bruin defense at the buzzer from half tank to end the scoring in the third.
PERIOD FOUR
> UCLA pitched a shutout and added two more goals in the fourth quarterย to provide the 13-7 final.
> Cavano opened the scoring in the final stanza with a strike from the front court (7:03) off a pass from Rowe to extend the lead to 12-7.
> Then Cavano set up super senior Evan Rosenfeldย for a power play score (5:56) to end the scoring in the game.
