UCLA Sweeps California, 3-0
October 13, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
BERKELEY, Calif. – Grayce Olson recorded 12 kills at a .304 hitting percentage to lead the UCLA women's volleyball team in a sweep over California at Haas Pavilion Friday night.
Set scores were 26-24, 25-13 and 25-23.
The Bruins (10-7, 2-5) totaled 44 kills and hit for .256 as a team. Setter Audrey Pak established a new career best with 36 assists. The Moraga, Calif. native filled up the statsheet with seven digs, two kills and a block. Joining Olson in double-figure kills was Anna Dodson with 10 on just 20 swings and Cheridyn Leverette who added 10 more.
UCLA had four set points at the service line in set one when a kill by Olson put the Bruins ahead, 24-20. However, a late 4-0 run by the Golden Bears (12-6, 1-6) with a kill by Maggie Li and ace from Paige Morningstar knotted the set, 24-24. After a UCLA timeout, Leverette quickly deposited a kill and Dodson notched her first of three blocks of the night for set point.
California's most efficient performer was middle blocker Mikayla Hayden who put up 11 kills at a .556 hitting percentage.
The Bruins dominated set two for 14 kills at a .444 clip. Dodson and Ndiaye tallied an error-free four and three kills, respectively, while Olson added four more in the frame. UCLA was also lethal from the service line with three aces.
UCLA maintained a slight advantage throughout most of set three. The Golden Bears were able to bring the score within one point, 23-22, before an attack error by Li put match point on the line. Dodson sealed the victory with a solo block after rejecting a California attack earlier in the play.
The Bruins close out their weekend in the Bay Area Sunday when they take on No. 3 Stanford in Maples Pavilion at 12 p.m. (PT). The match will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks with Greg Mescall on the call.
