
No. 2 UCLA Rolls Past No. 7 Pacific, 20-12

STOCKTON, Calif. -- No. 2 UCLA (8-0) rolled to a 20-12 win in its first true road game of the season at No. 7 Pacific (5-1) on Saturday afternoon at Chris Kjeldsen Pool at Eberhardt Aquatics Center. The Bruins improved to 55-4 all-time against the Tigers.A total of nine different Bruins scored in the contest, including a career-high effort from senior Jack Larsen. Larsen scored eight goals, one shy of the MPSF record, and tying for the most in the Adam Wright era (Nicolas Saveljic also scored eight goals against Stanford on Feb. 7, 2021. Freshmen Marcell Szécsi and Ben Liechty, and seniors Rafael Real Vergara and Hayden Nightingale also were scored multiple times against Pacific, each contributing two goals.
Senior Garret Griggs got the start in the cage and went the distance, tallying a season-high and career-high-tying 15 saves to go with one assist and one steal while surrendering 11 goals. The final goal allowed was credited to Makoto Kenney, who was in cap 1B at the time.
Both teams shot out of the gate with offenses firing on all cylinders scoring four goals each in the first five minutes of the game. But UCLA would tack on two more goals in the final two minutes of the period to take a 6-4 lead into the second.
The Bruins exploded for seven goals in the second quarter to build a 13-8 lead by halftime. Six different Bruins scored in the second quarter, paced by two more scores from Jack Larsen.
UCLA dominated the third period, winning 5-1, to take an 18-9 lead into the final stanza. The Tigers got another healthy dose of Jack Larsen, who recorded a hat trick in the third quarter to push his game total to seven scores.
Pacific managed to outscore the Bruins 3-2 in the fourth period to provide the 20-12 final.
UP NEXT: The Bruins will now head to No. 11 UC Davis to face the Aggies on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1:00 p.m. PT.
