LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 22 UCLA Swimming and Diving team won their first home meet of the 2024-25 season at Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday. The Bruins had 13 event wins en route to a 189-106 win over Arizona in the squad's first dual meet of the season.

The Bruins started off the session strong, finishing in first and second place in the 400 Medley Relay. The UCLA 'A' team of Claudia Yovanovich, Eva Carlson, Emma Harvey, and Gizem Guvenc finished in first place with a time of 3:33.33. The Bruins' 'B' team of Rosie Murphy, Karolina Piechowicz, Joanie Cash, and Sarah Bennetts touched in second place with a time of 3:36.42. The UCLA 'C' team of Mia Chang, Emma Matous, Angela Quan, and Anna Wetteland took fifth with a time of 3:41.84.

Beril Bocekler took UCLA's first event win in the 1000 free with a time of 10:05.23. Guvenc followed suit in the next event, finishing first in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.48. Senior Morgan Hawes took fourth, Josie Arbuckle took fifth, and Ava Lachey finished in eighth. In the 100 backstroke, Harvey and Rosie Murphy took first and second place, recording times of 52.50 and 54.34 respectively. Yovanovich took fourth and Catherine Andrews took eighth.

Senior Ana Jih-Schiff took her first event win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.47. Piechowicz took third place in the event with a time of 1:00.22. Carlson took fourth and Bennetts took fifth in the event.

On a day when UCLA honored 13 graduating seniors, the Bruins swept the podium in the 200 fly, with senior Paige MacEachern taking first place in a time of 1:58.26. Chang took second place in 2:00.45, and Ashley Kolessar finished in third with a time of 2:01.31. Elena Dry finished in seventh place in the event.ย

Jih-Schiff continued her dominant performance in the 50 freestyle, winning the event in 22.79. Cash took fifth, Wetteland finished in sixth, and Fiona Schere took seventh.ย

The Bruins also found success on the diving boards. In the 1-meter diving event, Junior Eden Cheng took second with a score of 279.90. Molly Brascia earned third place with a score of 269.05. Senior Maya Salvitti, Laura Fisher, and Maya Shtolzberg took fourth through six respectively. In the 3-meter diving event, Salvitti took third place with a score of 264.20. Brascia, Cheng, Shltozberg, and Fisher rounded out the event, taking fourth through seventh in the event.

After the diving break, the Bruins continued to find success in the pool. Guvenc won the 100 free in 49.21 and Bennetts took second with a time of 49.80. Arbuckle took sixth place in the event, and Senior Morgan Hawes finished in eighth.

The Bruins recorded another sweep in the 200 back. Murphy took first with a time of 1:55.75, Chang finished second with a time of 1:59.08, and Andrews rounded out the top three with a time of 2:00.17. Zhang finished in sixth place. In the 200 breaststroke, Jih-Schiff picked up another win with a time of 2:09.55. Carlson finished in second with a time of 2:12.12, and Matous took fourth.

In the 500 freestyle, Kolessar took second place with a time of 4:48.76, and MacEachern took third with a time of 4:55.55. Bocekler took fourth and Abi Winnicki finished in sixth. In her final individual race at Spieker Aquatics Center, Harvey took first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.56. MacEachern followed suit, winning the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.71.

The Bruins rounded out the day by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:29.12. The 'A' team that won the event consisted of Harvey, Bennetts, Guvenc, and Jih-Schiff.

Up Next: UCLA will be in action again at the Ohio State Invitational from November 21st-23rd in Columbus, Ohio.
