Bruins Fall, 79-77, in Heartbreaking Loss to Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - No. 9 UCLA Women's Basketball (19-5, 8-5 Pac-12) narrowly fell to No. 11 Oregon State 77-79 at Gill Coliseum on Friday night.
Sophomore Lauren Betts was the leading scorer of the game, finishing with 24 points and seven rebounds. Betts was joined by teammates Charisma Osborne, Kiki Rice, and Angela Dugalić in double figures for the night.
Osborne scored 13 points and moved to second place on UCLA Women's Basketball's all-time scoring list, jumping Jordin Canada in the Bruin record books. Osborne also passed Monique Billings for the most games played in program history, making her 142nd appearance on Friday night.
Timea Gardiner and Talia von Oelhoffen led the effort for Oregon State (21-3, 10-3 Pac-12), finishing with 21 and 22 points a piece. von Oelhoffen made the game-winning three-point shot, knocking down the deep triple over Rice as time expired.
Osborne scored the game's first points with a steal that she converted into a jumper, highlighting her power on both ends of the court. The Bruins struggled with turnovers and fouls in the first, but put up a strong defensive effort, holding the Beavers to no made field goals for the first six minutes of the period.
Osborne ended the second quarter with 11 points, including a three-point shot to tie the game. The first half of the game proved to be a tough fight, with a total of 10 lead changes. The Bruins led the Beavs 34-32 at the break.
The Bruins put up a strong offensive effort in the third quarter, scoring 24 points and missing only three shots in the period. Betts finished the quarter with 13 points and perfect shooting statistics. UCLA and Oregon State were locked in battle at the end of the third; the score was knotted up at 58 apiece.
In the final three minutes, the Beavers went on an 8-0 scoring run, tying up the game with 15 seconds remaining on the clock. The final 10 seconds of the game saw four lead changes between the Beavers and the Bruins. With eight seconds remaining, Dugalić hit a clutch 3-point shot, and Betts put up a jumper with only a second on the clock.
The Beavers finished the game with a made three-pointer, converting off an out-of-bounds play with 1.1 seconds on the clock.
