PHOENIX – The UCLA men's golf team tied for second at the Thunderbird Collegiate at Papago Golf Course on Saturday with a score of 10-under 842. The Bruins (283-279-280) finished ahead of five top-25 programs in the 17-team field.
Junior Pablo Ereño posted the best finish of his collegiate career, tying for third at 9-under (70-67-67). The Spaniard's back-to-back 67s in rounds two and three bolted him up 23 spots on the leaderboard over the final two days.
Ereño is playing his best golf as a Bruin with four consecutive top-10 finishes during the Spring 2024 season. He has been UCLA's top golfer in its last four stroke play events which leads the team (Omar Morales and Luke Powell both led UCLA in two tournaments earlier this season).
Course host and No. 4-ranked Arizona State won the team title by 28 strokes (-38, 814).
Morales (70-70-67) carded a 5-under 66 in his final round at the Thunderbird Collegiate to put himself in the top 10 (t-7th, -7). In round three, Morales birdied five times and, just like Ereño, holed an eagle on par-5 first hole. Morales leads the Bruins with six top-10s this season.
Graduate Mason Greene was UCLA's next best finisher (t-58th, +4).
