No. 1 UCLA Splits Regular Season Finale at No. 2 USC

LOS ANGELES -- No. 1 UCLA (29-5) split a pair of duals on Thursday to end the regular season, posting a 3-2 win over No. 9 LMU (22-12) before falling to No. 2 USC at Merle Norman Stadium, 4-1. The loss to the Trojans snapped the Bruins' win streak of 20 consecutive duals. The Bruins improved to 21-6 all-time against the Lions while dropping to 19-25 all-time against the Trojans.
In the first dual against the Lions, it all came down to court three, where UCLA redshirt freshman Kenzie Brower and junior Jessie Smith clinched the dual, defeating LMU's Anna Pelloia and Jacinda Ramirez in a three-set thriller, 14-21, 21-13, 15-9.
Graduate student Devon Newberry and senior Peri Brennan defeated LMU's Alisha Stevens and Isabelle Reffel on court two, 21-14, 21-14. It marked Newberry's 100th career win at UCLA, the 10th Bruin in program history to reach that milestone.
In the dual against the Trojans, USC would clinch the dual on court one where Megan Kraft and Laynie Maple defeated the Bruins' pair of graduate student Lexy Denaburg and sophomore Maggie Boyd, 21-17, 21-18.
UP NEXT: The Bruins will head to Tempe, Ariz., to defend their Pac-12 Championship title on the campus of Arizona State from April 24-26. Seedings will be announced soon.
