
No. 1 UCLA Falls to No. 13 Ohio State at First Point Collegiate Challenge

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 1 UCLA men's volleyball team closed out the First Point Collegiate Challenge with a 3-1 loss to No. 13 Ohio State on Saturday evening from the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. Set scores were 20-25, 24-26, 25-13, 17-25.
Zach Rama led the Bruins with a career-high tying 21 kills on Saturday night, hitting .529 for the match and also added three blocks on the night.
Ohio State opened the first set well before Rama recorded his first block of the night to make it a 7-5 Ohio State advantage.
Kahale Clini came off the bench to serve with the Bruins down 18-15, and was able to earn a point for the Bruins, but the Buckeyes continued to put the pressure on the Bruins and took the first set 25-20.
As for the second set, Ohio State came out strongly again, and took a 9-3 lead. With the Bruins down 9-3, the squad went on a 3-0 run to cut into the Buckeyes lead. The run started with a triple block, and was followed by a Rama ace before Robinson slammed home a kill to make it 9-6 Ohio State.
UCLA continued to chip away at the Buckeye's lead, and eventually tied the set up at 12-12 midway through the set courtesy of another Robinson kill.
The squads traded points for the majority of the second half of the set before Ohio State tied it at 24-24 before earning back-to-back points to take the second set 26-24, and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bruins came out energized in the third set, jumping out to a 4-1 lead. Rama and Robinson continued to combine for kill after kill during the third set, as the Bruins took a 12-7 lead midway through the set.
UCLA continued to control the set and stretched the lead to double digits before taking the set 25-13 courtesy of Rama's 14th kill of the night.
The Bruins for the third set hit an outstanding .571 with Rama and Robinson tallying four kills each.
In the fourth set the Buckeyes utilized an 8-0 scoring run to take a 10-3 lead and never looked back. The Bruins tried to close the gap but each time the Bruins would earn a few points, Ohio State would respond en route to a 25-17 win in the fourth set to clinch the match.
