Karolina Piechowicz Sets School Record in Dual at No. 14 USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Freshman Karolina Piechowicz set a new school record in the 100-yard breaststroke in UCLA Swim & Dive's dual meet loss to No. 14 USC on Friday afternoon. The final score was 215-85 on Friday.
The Bruins began the meet by tying the school record in the 200-medley relay. The A team of Fay Lustria, Eva Carlson, Emma Harvey, and Ana Jih-Schiff finished second in the event with a record-tying time of 1:36.36.
Ashley Kolessar finished on the podium in the first individual event of the day, the 1000 freestyle. She finished in third place with a time of 9:47.74. Gizem Guvenc then picked up a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.41.
The Bruins rounded out the podium in the 100 backstroke thanks to performances from Emma Harvey and Fay Lustria. Harvey finished in second place with a time of 52.35 and Lustria finished in third place with a time of 52.50.
Piechowicz then reset her own school record in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in second place with a time of 59.28. Jih-Schiff followed in third place with a time of 59.74.
Senior Paige MacEachern picked up her first podium finish of the day in the 200 fly, finishing in third with a time of 1:57.77. In the 50 free, Guvenc posted a time of 22.88 to finish in third place.
During the diving break, Eden Cheng earned second place in the three-meter competition with a final score of 271.73.
After the first break, Guvenc finished the 100 freestyle in fourth place with a time of 49.23. Sarah Bennetts finished in sixth at 50.33, and Josie Arbuckle took seventh in 50.38.
In the 200 backstroke, Rosie Murphy earned her first podium appearance at the meet. She finished in second place in the event with a time of 1:55.73.
Jih-Schiff continued to find success in the breaststroke events, finishing in second place in the 200 with a time of 2:08.23. In the 500 freestyle, MacEachern was the Bruins' top finisher, earning fifth place at 4:47.56.
MacEachern took second place in the 200 IM, finishing the event in 1:58.39.
Two Bruin teams finished in the top three in the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay. The UCLA A team took second place with a time of 3:16.28, and the UCLA B team finished in third place with a time of 3:22.08.
UP NEXT: The Bruin swimmers will travel to Las Vegas to compete at the UNLV First Chance Invitational on Feb. 14th and 15th . The Bruin divers will return home to Speiker Aquatics Center to compete at the First Chance Diving Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 15.
