STANFORD, Calif. --ย No. 1 UCLA (17-0, 2-0 MPSF West) againย rallied to defeat fourth-ranked Stanford, 14-11, at Avery Aquatic Center on Sunday afternoon. The Bruins trailed 9-6 with 5:01 remaining in the third quarter, and finished the game on an 8-2 run to record their 20th-straight victory (the sixth longest streak in UCLA history).ย The Bruins improved to 86-92 against Stanford with their fourth-consecutive win over the Cardinal (the last time UCLA matched that feat was during the 2014-15 seasons).
UCLA had eight different players score, paced byย sophomore Ryder Dodd's four goals and a team-high-tying five points (one assist). Redshirt junior Frederico Jucá Carsalade also scored five points with his second hat trick of the year to go with two assists.ย Jucá Carsalade also scored the eventual game-winning goal when he converted a penalty shot drawn by redshirt senior Chase Dodd at the 3:19 mark of the fourth quarter. Sophomore Peter Castillo was the only other Bruin to score multiple goals in the game, netting a pair of huge second-half goals.
Redshirt sophomore Nate Tauscher got the starting nod and went the distance, tallying a career-high 14 saves, one stealย and an assist while allowing 11 scores. He also made a huge stop on a 6-on-4 power play and one on a penalty shot by the Cardinal.
The Bruins got off to a strong defensive start, pitching a shutout in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. But the Cardinal would put a nickel-spot on the boardย in both the second and third periods. Stanford won the second period, 5-3, to send the game into the break tied at 5-5. The Cardinal won the third period, 5-4, to take a 10-9 leadย into the final stanza. The Bruins dominated the fourth period, 5-1, to provide the 14-11 final.
Up Next: The Bruins return home to host No. 12 Princeton (14-4) to start a five-game home stand on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 5:00 p.m. PT at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center.
