Murphy, Duncan Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

LOS ANGELES โ€“ Rosie Murphy and Jada Duncan of the UCLA Swim and Dive team have been named Big Ten Swimmer and Freshman of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The honors are both Murphy and Duncan's first of their careers.

Murphy set a school record in the 200 backstroke on Friday afternoon in UCLA's duel meet at No. 18 ASU. The senior touched the wall in a new record time of 1:52.39. That time is ranked 10th fastest nationally in the discipline.

Over the course of the weekend, Murphy recorded four event wins, she won both the 200 back and the 200 IM on both Friday and Saturday. Murphy also helped multiple UCLA relay squads to top-two finishes in their races.

Duncan earned five event wins in UCLA's dual meets at No. 18 Arizona State and at Arizona over the weekend. The freshman won both the 50 free and the 100 fly in the meet as ASU, and
won the 100 free and 100 fly on Saturday in the dual at Arizona.

Duncan also helped the Bruin relays shine. The freshman helped the Bruins win the 400 medley relay at Arizona State to open the meet.

ย Her 50 free win in 22.02 in the dual at ASU is the 15th fastest time in the country to date.

The Bruins are back in action next week at the Ohio State Invitational Nov. 18-21.
