Bruins Finish Sixth at Ohio State Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio โ€“ The UCLA swim and dive team wrapped up competition at the Ohio State Invitational on Friday. After four days of competition, UCLA finishes the meet in sixth place with 1,041 points.

Day Four Recap
The Bruins had 16 individuals qualify for finals on day three at the OSU invite on Thursday.

Rosie Murphy set another school record in the 200 IM finals on Friday evening. The senior recorded her second school record of the year with a first-place showing in 1:54.89.

Jada Duncan also continued her solid week with another top-8 finish, this time in the 100 free. The freshman touched the wall in 48.29 to claim sixth place in the event.

Murphy then earned another top-three spot in the 200 back. Murphy, fresh off a school record in the 200 IM, almost lowered her own school record in the 200 back. She touched the wall in 1:52.60 to take second place in the event, and was just 0.29 of a second off of her school record in the event.

In between the prelims and finals session UCLA had Applejean Gwinn and Beril Bocekler competing in the 1650 free. The Bruins finished in 23rd and 25th overall in the event.

As for the prelims session on Friday, UCLA had 16 student-athletes earn second swims. To open the morning session the Bruins six finalist qualifiers in the 100 free, headlined by Duncan who took ninth in prelims, and Gizem Guvenc who took 20th to take a spot in the 'B' final.

Additionally, seven Bruins earned second swims in the 200 back. Murphy qualified for the 'A' final, while Claudia Yovanovich and Erica Jaffe each earned spots in the 'B' final after placing 17th and 19th in prelims.

Day Three Recap
UCLA had 11 individuals qualify for finals on day three at the OSU invite on Thursday. Claudia Yovanovich, Fay Lustria, and Rosie Murphy also earned spots in the 100 backstroke 'A' final with Yovanovich taking third, Lustria finishing fourth and Murphy qualified seventh.

Sarah Bennetts continued her strong weekend with a second 'A' final qualification, this time taking sixth in the prelims of the 200 breast.

The Bruins finished the morning session strongly, with seven Bruins earning second swims in the 50 free. Freshman Jada Duncan and Yovanovich finished in eighth and 10th to earn spots in the 'A' final, while Bennetts, Alexis Schaffer, and Josie Arbuckle placed 26th, 28th, and 29th to qualify for the 'C' final. Additionally, Anna Wetteland and Gizem Guvenc took 32nd and 39th to earn spots in the 'D' final.

In the finals session, UCLA had four individuals finish in the top eight.

Three Bruins placed in the top eight in the 100 back. Claudia Yovanovich touched the wall in fourth, Rosie Murphy finished fifth, and Fay Lustria took eighth.

Later on in the evening session, Sarah Bennetts and Jada Duncan finished fifth and eighth in the 200 breast and 50 free respectively to cap another strong night for the Bruins.

Day Two Recap
In the morning prelims session, UCLA had 11 individuals earn second swims and advance to the evening finals session.

To kick off the day, Jada Duncan and Fay Lustria earned spots in the 100 butterfly 'A' final after finishing in fourth and ninth, respectively. Alexis Schaffer qualified for the 'C' final with a 28th-place finish, and Josie Arbuckle advanced to the 'D' final to round out the Bruins who advanced.

Rosie Murphy qualified first in the 400 IM in a time of 4:08.24, while Applejean Gwinn and Ashley Kolessar both advanced to the 'C' final by finishing in 21st and 28th overall in the session.

Gizem Guvenc continued the streak of having at least one Bruin in each 'A' final on the day with a ninth-place finish in the prelims of the 200 free, where she touched the wall in 1:46.70.

To round out the morning, Sarah Bennetts became the fifth Bruin to earn a spot in the 'A' finals by taking sixth in the 100 breast prelims. Nikoline Biltoft-Jensen and Grace Dougherty also qualified for the 'B' final by taking 16th and 20th in the prelims session.

As for the evening finals session, Rosie Murphy earned UCLA's first individual win of the meet in the 400 IM. The senior took the title in an NCAA 'A' cut time of 4:06.08, beating out the next closest finisher by over a second and a half.

Gwinn and Kolessar took 26th and 30th overall in the event, and finished in 4:18.26 and 4:21.91, respectively.

In the 200 butterfly, Duncan and Lustria took part in the 'A' final with Duncan nabbing fourth place in 51.79 and Lustria taking ninth in 53.41.

As for the 100 breast, Bennetts continued her solid day with a fourth-place finish in the event, touching the wall in 59.97. Bruins Biltoft-Jensen and Dougherty took 12th overall and 20th overall after earning spots in the 'B' final.

To round out the day the Bruins took home a podium spot emphatically in the 200 free relay. The quartet of Duncan, Claudia Yovanovich, Bennetts, and Ana Wetteland combined to take third place in a new school record time of 1:28.45.

Up Next: UCLA continues action at the Ohio State Invite on Thursday with Thursday morning's prelim sessions at 6:30 am PT, followed by the finals session at 2:30 pm PT.

Trojan Diving Invite
Day Three Recap

The UCLA diving squad had five divers compete in the 10m platform competition on the final day of the Trojan Diving Invite. Just like on 1m and 3m the prior two days, three Bruins finished in the top seven of the event. All three of Molly Brascia, Eden Cheng, and Laura Fisher earned NCAA Zone qualifications standards on the day.

In the finals session, Brascia, Cheng and Fisher all finished in the top seven. Cheng took second place overall with 581.10 points, while Brascia finished fourth with a score of 452.75, and Fisher took seventh overall with a score of 435.55.

Day Two Recap
The UCLA diving squad had five divers compete in the 3m meter competition on day two at the Trojan Diving Invite. Just like on 1m the day before, all five Bruins earned spots in Friday's finals session, as Molly Brascia finished top of the charts in the prelims session with a score of 313.95.

In the finals session Brascia, Cheng and Laura Fisher all finished in the top seven. Brascia took second place overall with 599.35 points, finishing less than five points behind Kate Miller of USC, while Cheng finished fourth with a score of 516.90, and Fisher took seventh overall with a score of 497.00.

Day One Recap
The UCLA dive team had five divers compete in the 1m competition on day one of the Trojan Diving Invite. Impressively, all five divers earned spots in the finals, with Molly Brascia, Eden Cheng, Virginia Tiberti, and Laura Fisher all finishing the prelims session in the top 10.

As for the finals round, Brascia and Tiberti shined. Brascia totaled of score of 566.95 points on the night to claim second place, while Tiberti took sixth place with a total score of 505.30.
