November 23, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – No. 3-ranked UCLA Women's Basketball dominated Sunday's March Madness rematch against the Southern Jaguars in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial.
The Bruins (5-0, 0-0 Big Ten) took down Southern University (1-3, 0-0 SWAC), winning 88-37 and marking the largest margin of victory this season.
Eight of the 10 Bruins who entered Sunday's game scored in the contest. Graduate forward Angela Dugalić led the way with 20 points off 53.3 percent shooting from the field (8-14 FG), followed by senior Kiki Rice's efficient 17 points (7-11 FG). The point guard had 10 of her points in the third quarter.
Dugalić started the game off for the Bruins with four-consecutive points; she scored a mid-range shot and a quick, easy layup assist from senior Lauren Betts.
Betts made her presence known to early with four quick points, two rebounds and an assist. Her second rebound of the game marked her 750th-career rebound, adding to her list of collegiate accomplishments.
The Bruins passed the ball well, with eight of their first nine made shots coming from an assist. The Bruins' leading scorer through the first 20 minutes was freshman Lena Bilić, who shot efficiently with 12 points (4-6 3FG). She finished with 14; Sunday's result marks her season- and career-high points total in her young collegiate career.
Graduate guard Charlisse Leger-Walker contributed her fair share, having an all-around performance in the game. She finished with six points, seven assists and five rebounds.
The Bruins defensive effort was seen throughout the opening period, holding the Jaguars to a 14.7 percent shooting split (4-27 FG) to close out the first half. UCLA forced a season high nine first half turnovers, throwing off the Jaguars offensive flow and exhibiting strong defensive intensity.
Rice started the second half strong, completing an and-one layup in the paint off a Gabriela Jaquez steal and assist.
Jaquez had a career milestone, tallying her 1,000th-career point on her first made basket of the night.
