No. 1 UCLA Takes Down No. 8 Ohio State, 65-52

LOS ANGELES – The No. 1-ranked UCLA Women's Basketball Team (22-0, 10-0 Big Ten) won their twenty-second consecutive game to begin the 2024-25 season, taking down No. 8 Ohio State inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Wednesday night, 65-52. The 22-game winning streak is now the longest in program history.
 
Junior Lauren Betts recorded her 12th double-double of the season, finishing with 19 points and 14 rebounds in the win over the Buckeyes (20-2, 9-2 Big Ten). She shot 8-of-13 from the field and finished with three blocks.
 
Junior Gabriela Jaquez finished the game with 17 points and six rebounds on 7-of-11 shooting. Junior Kiki Rice scored twelve points alongside four assists and three rebounds.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Bruins were up just two points, 44-42, before outscoring the Buckeyes 21-10 in the fourth quarter to earn the win 65-52. Jaquez scored 11 of her 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting on the night in the final period to help propel the Bruins to the win.

The Bruins struggled at the beginning of the first quarter but finished the first ten minutes up 18-16. Seven Bruins scored in the first quarter, with Rice scoring on the first possession of the game off of an assist from Betts. The Buckeyes went on a 5-0 scoring run, but the run was ended by a big three-pointer from Timea Gardiner. Angela Dugalic picked up two blocks in the quarter and hit a three. Londynn Jones soon followed suit with another three, and freshman Elina Aarnisalo hit two free throws to give the Bruins the lead going into the second quarter.
 
 
UCLA was effective from the field in the second quarter, and took a halftime lead of 30-24. Betts finished the quarter with 10 points and seven rebounds to record her 12th double-double of the season in just the first 20 minutes of action. Betts also shot the ball effectively, finishing the period 4-of-6 from the field, while also recording two blocks in the quarter. Rice was the only other player on the team to score in the second, finishing a layup off of her own steal.
 
In the third quarter, the Buckeyes' offense came to life, outscoring the Bruins 18-14 in the period. Betts scored four points, grabbed three rebounds, and added a block. Jaquez and Janiah Barker also ended the quarter with four points each. Dugalic contributed with four rebounds, and Rice finished with two points, a rebound, and an assist. The Bruins went into the fourth quarter up 44-42.
 
UCLA began to dominate both ends of the floor as soon as the fourth quarter began. Rice scored four points straight out of the break, forcing an Ohio State timeout. Jaquez then powered the Bruins offensively with her 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. Rice contributed six points and three assists in the final frame, and Betts and Barker added two points each. The win is UCLA's twenty-first consecutive double-digit win and their tenth double-digit win in Big Ten play.
 
 
UP NEXT - vs Oregon (Feb 9)
The Bruins will travel to Eugene, Oregon to face off against the Oregon Ducks at Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday, Feb. 9. The game will tip off at 1 p.m. PST and will be broadcast on B1G+.
