UCLA Concludes First Home Meet of 2025

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA track & field team hosted its first home meet of the season on Friday night, with the team's distance group and throwers taking part in the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival at Drake Stadium.
The evening saw a number of notable Bruin performances, particularly in the hammer throw and javelin (the field events, while held on Friday, are technically part of Saturday's Jim Bush Legends Meet).
Kris Emig started the night for the Bruins with a win in the men's hammer, finishing with a long mark of 66.37m (217-9). He and teammate Michael Pinckney (60.93m / 199-11) were the only entrants to clear 60 meters, while Jake Stafford notched a PR at 59.48m (195-1) to claim third place.
Lyvante Su'emai gave the Bruins a sweep in the hammer with a win on the women's side, finishing with a mark of 56.40m (185-0). Only one other competitor finished over 50 meters.
The Bruins also excelled on both sides of the javelin.
Jana van Schalkwyk improved on her PR at 54.57m (179-0), solidifying her place at No. 2 in school history, en route to a win on the women's side. Ollie Thorner meanwhile led the Bruin men with a mark of 52.26m (171-5), good for third place.
Michael Mireles was UCLA's distance standout, hitting a PR in the men's 1,500m at 3:43.79 to take third place in that race. Tristan Amell (3:44.86) joined him in the top five.
Rose Pittman (4:21.45) earned a third-place result herself on the women's side. She was joined by Mia Kane (4:24.89) in the top-five, while Bruins landed in the top-10 overall. ย
UCLA continues a two-meet home weekend with the Jim Bush Legends Meet on Saturday. Field events start at 11 a.m., with track events starting two hours later at 1 p.m.
