No.1 UCLA Defeats No. 5 Ole Miss to Reach Elite Eight

SPOKANE, Wash. - The No. 1-ranked UCLA Women's Basketball team defeated the No. 5 seed Ole Miss 76-62 in the Sweet Sixteen on Friday night inside the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
Junior Lauren Betts led the Bruins (33-2) in scoring and finished with 31 points and 10 rebounds in the win over the Rebels (22-11). With her latest 30-point performance, Betts becomes one of three players to record multiple 30-point and 10-rebound games in the NCAA tournament over the last 25 seasons. Betts shot 15-of-16 from the field and added three blocks on Friday night.
Junior Kiki Rice scored 13 points and added seven assists in the win.
The Bruins were effective early, outscoring the Rebels 19-12 in the first quarter. Betts scored the first field goal of the game thanks to an assist from Rice, and then recorded a block on the other end. Betts finished the quarter in double digits, scoring 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting, and added four rebounds. Angela Dugalic splashed in a three-pointer alongside two rebounds and a block in the first frame. Janiah Barker scored in the paint and Elina Aarnisalo scored on a floater to round out the team's balanced offensive quarter.
UCLA was outscored by eight points, 17-11, in the second quarter by Ole Miss. The team was held scoreless for nearly three minutes until Betts scored off of a second-chance layup. Betts added six points in the second frame, finishing the first half with 16 points and without missing a shot. She also assisted on a layup by Gabriela Jaquez. Dugalic also scored on the fast break after converting a turnover. UCLA entered the halftime break up one, 30-29.
The Bruins were dominant on the offensive end in the third quarter, outscoring the Rebels 25-15. The team opened up the quarter on an 8-0 run to force a timeout. Londynn Jones hit her first three-pointer of the game and Rice scored five points in less than a minute to contribute to the team's early success in the third frame. The Bruins' attack was efficient, and Jones finished the quarter with eight points while shooting 3-4 from the quarter. Betts added eight points on 4-4 shooting alongside three rebounds, an assist, and a block. Rice scored seven points without missing a shot. The Bruins finished the third quarter up 55-44.
UCLA extended its season by outscoring Ole Miss 19-13 in the final quarter of play . Betts added seven points and two rebounds to achieve her 19th double-double of the season. Rice and Jaquez each contributed four points in the quarter, with Rice added three assists. Aarnisalo, Jones, and Barker also scored in the final frame to help the team advance to UCLA's first Elite Eight game since 2018, 76-62.
