March 06, 2025 | Bruin Athletics
LOS ANGELES โ UCLA Athletics' Deputy Athletics Director, Chief Administrative Officer and Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) Dr. Christina Munger-Rivera was named to the NCAA Division I Sports Oversight Committee, where she will help shape future rules and regulations for college athletics.
ย
Munger-Rivera, who is in her 18th year working for UCLA Athletics, joins a team of 29 committee members, including conference commissioners, athletics directors and senior-level administrators.
ย
"I am honored to be serve on the NCAA Division I Sports Oversight Committee during this dynamic time in college athletics," Munger-Rivera said. "I look forward to working collaboratively with my colleagues on this influential committee to ensure a positive intercollegiate experience for student-athletes while growing interest in NCAA sports across the country."
ย
Big Ten Conference representatives currently hold four of the 29 committee spots.
ย
At UCLA, Dr. Munger-Rivera directly supervises Women's Gymnastics, Softball, administrative areas and leads department efforts, especially in the areas of internal operations, Title IX, women in sport, governance and legislation, department meetings, campus partnerships, and performance evaluation and program assessment. As a member of the Executive Team reporting directly to the Director of Athletics, she serves in a leadership role for coaches and staff, and works towards establishing department goals and policies that align with University values.
ย
Additionally, Dr. Munger-Rivera collaborates with UCLA officials to provide guidance and direction to coaches and staff in order to enhance the growth and development of student-athletes on and off the field. In the face of changing NCAA legislation, she also works to develop strategic and innovative programs that benefit the department and are executed in a consistent, efficient and professional manner throughout the support services areas. Her role also requires her to exercise broad discretionary authority to solve problems in assigned areas of responsibility, including working closely with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure the department is consistently providing a quality student-athlete experience and that the principles of championship excellence are embedded in all UCLA varsity programs.

About the NCAA Division I Sports Oversight Committee
The Sports Oversight Committee has oversight responsibility, in sports other than football and men's and women's basketball, of nonacademic operating bylaws (e.g., recruiting, playing and practice seasons) that impact the overall student-athlete intercollegiate experience as well as regular season and championships administration including supervision of qualification and/or selection procedures for Division I and National Collegiate Championships. This oversight includes studying issues impacting sport ecosystems in addition to making policy or legislative recommendations in areas not designated as autonomy.
ย
The Sports Oversight Committee will review recommendations from sports committees who will report directly to the Sports Oversight Committee and process other issues related to the administration of those championships.
