LOS ANGELES – No. 4 UCLA (13-3, 3-0 MPSF) cruised to a 17-11 win on Sunday morning over No. 15 Indiana (12-6, 0-2 MPSF) in league play at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center. With the win over the Hoosiers, the Bruins improved to 21-0 in the series history.
A total of 11 Bruins scored against Indiana, paced by a season-high-tying four goals from junior Taylor Smith. The Bruins also received hat tricks from juniors Bia Mantellato and Anna Pearson. Sophomore Olivia Ouellette was the only other Bruin to score multiple goals with a season- and career-high two against IU.
Steele got the start in the cage and played 31 of 32 minutes, tallying nine saves to go with two steals and one assist while allowing eight goals. Sophomore Joey Niz played one minute down the stretch, allowing one score.
The Bruins jumped out to an 8-3 lead at the end of the first period. UCLA won a lower scoring in the second, 2-1, to build a 10-4 lead by halftime. The Bruins won the third period, 5-3, to take a 15-7 lead heading into the final stanza. UCLA won the fourth period, 4-2, to provide the 19-9 final.
