LOS ANGELESย โ No. 4 UCLA (17-4) was able to exact revenge on No. 3 Hawai'i (16-4) by a score of 16-9 in the Bruins' final non-conference game of the 2025 regular season on Saturday night at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center. With the win, the Bruins improved to 59-4 all-time in the series.
A total of eight Bruins scored against the Rainbow Wahine with Anna Pearson scoring a team-high and game-high-tying four goals. Emma Lineback and Molly Renner each scored a game-high six points (each with two goals and four assists) for the Bruins. Taylor Smith, Sienna Green, and Genoa Rossi each scored two goals in the win over Hawai'i.
Sophomore Lauren Steele got the start in the cage and played all but 2:45 seconds, registering six saves, three steals, and one assist while giving up eight goals. Sophomore Joey Niz came on in relief and played the final 2:40 and made two saves while pitching a shutout. One goal scored by Hawai'i on an empty net on an unsuccessful 7-on-6 play for the Bruins was credited to Pearson as the goalie who allowed the full-tank score at the end of the third period.
Hawai'i took a 4-1 lead at the start but the Bruins scored the final two goals of the opening period to trim the deficit to 4-3 by the end of the first. The second quarter was all UCLA as the Bruins would score seven consecutive goals at one point, winning the second quarter, 7-1, to take a 10-5 lead into the break. UCLA won the third period, 4-3, to build a 14-8 lead heading into the final stanza. The Bruins won the fourth period, 2-1, to provide the 16-9ย final.
