LOS ANGELESย -- No. 1 UCLA (29-4) protected home turf against No. 5 USC (23-8), sending the Bruin seniors out in style with a 3-2 win on Thursday at Mapes Beach on Senior Day. The Bruins improved their series history against the Trojans to 21-28.
UCLA went up 1-0 on court two after Peri Brennan and Natalie Myszkowski won two consecutive 21-19 sets over Kennedy Coakley and Ashley Pater, snapping the Trojan duo's 20-match winning streak.
Soon after, The Trojans tied the dual at 1-1 when Delaney Karl and Ella Larkin rallied against Kaley Mathews and Sophie Moore 16-21, 21-17, 15-7 on court four.
The Bruins then took a 2-1 lead on court five after Harper Cooper and Ensley Alden posted a 21-19, 21-11 win over the Trojans' duo of Madison Goellner and Macy Bolyard.
UCLA clinched the dual victory on court one as Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd delivered a 21-18, 21-18 victory over USC's Madison White and Zoey Henson to put the Bruins up 3-1.
The Trojans would score the final point of the dual when Maya Gessner and Mabyn Thomas defeated Kenzie Brower and Alexa Fernandez 21-18, 22-20.
UP NEXT: The Bruins will likely be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2025 MPSF Beach Volleyball Championship at Huntington Beach, Calif. from April 23-25. The seedings will be announced in the coming days.
