Men’s Golf Finishes Tied for 20th Place at NCAA Championships

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The No. 14-ranked UCLA men's golf team finished in a tie for 20th place with Tennessee through three rounds of the NCAA Championships on Sunday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
 
The top 15 teams, out of 30, have advanced to Monday's fourth round of stroke play, prior to match play. With a finish in 20th place, the Bruins did not make the cut for Monday's round.
 
UCLA shot 30-over 894 through three days in Carlsbad, carding 8-over 296 in Sunday's third round. This marked the Bruins' first appearance at the NCAA Championships since 2018.
 
Bruins' senior Pablo Ereño advanced as an individual into the fourth and final day of stroke play (Monday, May 26). Ereño shot 2-under 214 through three rounds, tied for 10th place with three other golfers. After a tiebreak takes place on Monday morning, Ereño will be back in action for the individual national championship after 12:30 p.m. (PT) on Monday.
 
Junior Kyle An finished the weekend with UCLA's second-best individual score, carding 8-over 224 (tied, 77th place). After shooting even par on Saturday (72), An finished at 3-over 75 on Sunday.
 
Senior Omar Morales shot 2-over 74 on Sunday, finishing at 10-over 226 through three days. Freshman Baylor Larrabee carded 9-over 81 in the third round, putting his three-day score at 17-over 233.
 
Freshman Trevor Garus shot 6-over 78 on Sunday, one day after he carded 5-over 77.
 
The NCAA Championships format features three straight days of 18-hole stroke play that run from Friday through Sunday. Following those 54 holes, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. That additional day of stroke play is set for Monday, May 26.
 
The top eight teams after 72 holes of play will be placed into a bracket thereafter (team match-play competition), taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
 
Ereño will enter Monday's final round at 2-under 214, sitting nine strokes behind the individual leader, Michael La Sasso from Ole Miss (11-under 205). Phichaksn Maichon from Texas A&M (9-under 207) and Connor Williams (6-under 210) are second and third, respectively, on the individual leaderboard heading into Monday's action.

The Bruins were in 22nd place out of 30 teams after two rounds.
 
UCLA shot 9-over 297 in the second round of action at the NCAA Championships on Saturday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
 
UCLA was in 22nd place out of 30 teams, moving into Sunday's third round (22-over 598). Bruins' senior Pablo Ereño was tied for 32nd place on the individual leaderboard, having carded 1-over 145 through the first two days in Carlsbad.
 
Ereño shot 1-under 71 on Saturday, leading all of the Bruins' golfers. Junior Kyle An shot even par (72) on the second day of action, standing in a tie for 80th place among all competitors (5-over, 149).
 
UCLA's other three golfers on Saturday included senior Omar Morales, freshman Baylor Larrabee and freshman Trevor Garus, who all shot 5-over 77 in the second round. Garus competed as a substitute for sophomore Luke Powell.
 
Sunday's third round in Carlsbad was scheduled to begin as early as 6:30 a.m. (PT). The Bruins were set to begin from Hole 1 at approximately 12:45 p.m. (PT).
 
Day One Recap

The Bruins shot 13-over 301 in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Friday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
 
The Bruins stood in 27th place out of 30 teams headed into Saturday's second round.
 
The NCAA Championships format includes three consecutive days of 18-hole stroke play that run from Friday, May 23, through Sunday, May 25. Following those 54 holes, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. The top four teams through the opening round included Oklahoma (-8, 280), Florida State (-3, 285), Florida (-3, 285) and Texas (-3, 285). UCLA currently stands eight strokes shy of the 14th-place position (+5, 293). The Bruins must finish within the top 15 teams through Sunday's third round to continue into Monday's final round of stroke play.
 
Senior Pablo Ereño concluded Friday's action as the Bruins' top individual performer. Ereño carded 2-over 74 through 18 holes. Freshman Baylor Larrabee and senior Omar Morales shot 3-over 75, while junior Kyle An finished 5-over 77. Sophomore Luke Powell shot 9-over 81 to round out the Bruins' group of five golfers.
 
Ereño finished with five birdies, three bogeys and two double bogeys.
