Women’s Basketball Announces Addition of Softball Star Megan Grant

July 11, 2025 | Softball, Women's Basketball

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women's basketball program has announced the addition of two-time All-American softball player Megan Grant to its roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Grant will be a two-sport athlete in her senior season, playing both women's basketball and softball.

Grant was a three-sport star throughout her childhood and at Aragon High School in San Mateo, Calif. where she lettered in softball for four years and women's basketball and volleyball both for three years. Becoming a dual-sport athlete at UCLA is the realization of a lifelong dream for Grant who has always professed her love for the game of basketball

"Being a Bruin is something that I take tremendous pride in," Grant said. "Words can't express how grateful I am to now be able to represent both UCLA softball and UCLA women's basketball – two elite and legendary programs. Basketball was my first love and has always brought out a childlike spirit in me, so putting on this jersey and being a small piece in this historically great program is a dream come true. I can't thank Coach I and Coach Cori enough for allowing me to live out Little Megs' dream."

Grant, a key contributor for the UCLA softball program the last three seasons, was one of the most dominant power hitters in the country in 2025, setting the Big Ten single-season record for home runs with 26 and ranking top 10 nationally with 81 runs batted in and a .933 slugging percentage. Career-wise, Grant ranks fourth on UCLA's all-time slugging charts (.727) and has totaled 49 home runs and 180 RBIs over 180 games. She has helped the Bruins to back-to-back Women's College World Series appearances, two Pac-12 Conference regular-season titles and a Pac-12 Tournament Championship.

Standing 5-feet, 10-inches, Grant will be listed as a guard/forward wearing No. 43 for the UCLA women's basketball team in 2025-26.

"The opportunity to have someone's dream come true under your supervision is just special," said the Michael Price Family UCLA Women's Head Basketball Coach Cori Close. "When I heard that Megan's dream was to play on the basketball team and was to be a part of this, that her love of basketball had never waned, how could I say no? That was just a privilege to say yes, let's add her. On top of making that dream a reality, which is such an honor, you're adding the person that's number one in the country at her craft. When you think about that – she's arguably the number one softball player in the United States – we're trying to be the number one basketball program in the United States. There's a mindset crossover with that, so to combine her passion and joy for the game and having her standard of excellence and her mindset for her craft, that's going to be a huge addition to our program. We're really excited to have Megan as a part of our Women's Basketball family in the upcoming year."

As a prep athlete in the Bay Area, Grant was listed to the SportsStars' Bay Area Top 75 Athlete yearly rankings all four years of high school, finishing her career ranked as the No. 3 overall athlete – across all sports – in the region. Additionally, Grant was named the 2021-22 Daily Journal Girls' Athlete of the Year her senior year after remarkable campaigns across the volleyball, basketball and softball seasons.

In her first year of varsity volleyball, Grant became a regular rotation player as a middle blocker for an Aragon High School team that advanced to the Central Coast Section (CCS) Division II semifinals. After capturing gold with the USA Softball U18 Women's National Team at the WBSC World Cup in Lima, Peru, Grant returned for a stellar senior season on the hardwood with the Lady Dons. She helped Aragon girls' basketball to the CCS title, leading the squad in rebounding with 7.0 boards per game while ranking third with 9.5 points game. Grant recorded a double-double in the championship game with 12 points and 17 rebounds.

Grant completed her high school basketball career with 556 points (7.83 PPG), 421 rebounds (5.93 RPG), 88 assists, 81 steals and 29 blocks.

"I cannot be more proud of Megan for pursuing her dream of playing college basketball, especially for such a storied program and passionate leader like Coach Cori," said the Shelly Carlin UCLA Head Softball Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez. "The most ambitious, competitive and high-level athletes in the world come to UCLA, and Megan Grant is a prime example. Our fanbase is familiar with the all-out effort Megan gives on the diamond each and every day, and I have no doubt that will translate to the hardwood. Our Bruin Family up at Easton can't wait to make our way down to Pauley to cheer on Chef Megan and women's hoops!"
