Jennie Immethun Selected Big Ten Defensive Player of Week

UCLA senior defender Jennie Immethun has been named the Big Ten Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after a strong performance at center back at Georgia in her Bruin debut.
Immethun, who transferred to UCLA from TCU this fall, helped the Bruins achieve a 1-0 shutout victory in the season opener at Georgia, saving a goal in the 90th minute. With UCLA up 1-0, Georgia's Cate Hardin got a close-range shot past the Bruin goalkeeper with 30 seconds to play, but Immethun was there on the line to body the shot, and it was cleared away by teammate Meila Brewer. Immethun also had a strong tackle in the 36th minute to stop a budding breakaway. She and the Bruin defense held Georgia to three shots on goal and earned UCLA's first shutout of the year.
This is Immethun's first career Conference Defensive Player of the Week award. She was also selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
UCLA will host Tennessee on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 7pm in the Bruins' home opener at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. The match will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus.
