No. 1 UCLA Takes Down No .17 CSUN, 3-0

LOS ANGELES – The No. 1 UCLA men's volleyball program took down No. 17 CSUN 3-0 on Friday evening inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial. Set scores were 25-18, 25-20, and 25-22.
David Decker led the way for UCLA, tallying 12 kills on 17 swings, while Sean Kelly added 10 kills on the night. Andrew Rowan dished out a game-high 34 assists and led the Bruin offense to a .411 hitting percentage on the night.
Defensively, Chris Connelly recorded a game-high 12 digs, while Cameron Thorne added three blocks for the Bruins.
The Bruins took an early 8-4 lead when Rowan dished to Kelly, who then found Thorne for the kill. UCLA extended the lead to 12-6 when Rama served up the first ace of the match.
CSUN cut the opening set lead to four, 16-12, when Grayson Albers tallied an ace. The Bruins quickly responded with two of the next three points to extend the lead to 18-13.
The Bruins took the opening set 25-18, as a kill from Kelly and an attack error from the Matadors gave UCLA the opening set. Kelly and Decker led the way with five kills each in the opening set.
As for the second set, the two sides battled point-for-point, as neither team established more than a one-point lead. Thorne and Decker combined for the block, to give the Bruins a 13-12 lead midway through the set.
Rama came out of the back row on the attack to give the Bruins a 14-13 lead. UCLA took the first multi-point lead of the set at 16-14, when Micah Wong Diallo hammered home a kill.
CSUN tallied three of the next four points to tie the set at 17-17, before Kelly pushed the Bruins up 17-16. An ace from Rowan then gave the Bruins a 19-17 lead.
Kelly and Wong Diallo combined for the block to make it a 23-19 lead for UCLA. Kelly then ended the set with his eighth kill of the night, giving the Bruins the second set, 25-20.
CSUN raced out to a 7-2 lead in the third set, forcing a Bruin timeout. UCLA earned five of the next six points to make it 8-7 in favor of CSUN.
The Bruins continued to claw their way back, and tied the set at 11-11 courtesy of Decker's second ace of the night. Back-to-back kills from Wong Diallo, and a solo block by Thorne gave the Bruisn their first lead of the set, 14-13.
Rowan found Thorne again to gibe the Bruins a two-point lead, 16-14. Rowan then served up another ace, forcing a CSUN timeout, and giving UCLA A 17-14 advantage.
Decker and Thorne combined for the block to make it a 19-17 advantage for UCLA. The Bruins then closed the set with kills from Rowan and Wong Diallo, to take the set 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
